I had a look at what they had tonight in my local. They didn't seem to have a great range in stock, considering it's a Tesco Extra, but what they had looked good quality. I was looking at some very nice jods for under £17, and their long boots looked very good, but too narrow on the leg for me.

Tesco direct have some offers on which are worth a look.

It seems their comfort bridle would have been a good buy - it came top in Your Horse's review this month, pitted against bridles costing £200!! Pity it's discontinued!

I treated myself to a Tesco Value sweatscraper for £1.20!

My friend has got some lovely sage green joddies from them and I only found out that is where they came from, after I had commented on how nice they were

I tried on some beige ones and they came up true to size but beige is not that flattering, so I am waiting for them to stock the sage green ones, or black

I was totally unaware that Tesco even made equestrian products until a month or 2 ago and was pleasantly suprised at the jodhs! Got my Mum to buy me a beige pair from back home and they're washing really well so far

i had a horse with serious sweet itch. He destroyed the boett rug and various other fly sheets.. however, in a tesco fly rug, he was itch free and did not rag it.

I've had there jods and there good. tehy last.

How do the jod sizes come up? I was a bit wary of sizing, so I passed this time.

I nearly bought a hi-viz set as well - boots, tail cover and rein thingies for £7.50 but the OH had sent me to get milk and onions on my way home from work, so I daren't spend too much this close to payday!

I really like the pink brushing boots as well - they're a tenner in store but cheaper online.

I bought a fab little grooming kit from Tesco...dandy, body brush, curry comb, hoofpick, sponge, mane comb and platting bands...all for £3.50

I had a fleece rug from tescos, never been used, ended up selling it at a bootsale for £3. I think the woman got a bargain! Might have to check it out for jodhs.

I take it that you are all happy to close down your local tack shops?

I don't think Tesco are that much of a threat to tack shops tbh, they don't stock much and people generally aren't going to go with the sole intention of buying horsey stuff...more like picking something up whilst doing the weekly shop.
Yes, Tesco are a threat to a lot of smaller retailers..but I think it's going to be online shopping that affects tack shops more.

I agree, i love local tack shops because they tend to have so much different stuff where as tescos seem to stock a few essentials. Plus if you want something specialist or need some advice, local tack shops have someone on hand who has a clue what they are on about.

As i have said before, Supermarkets eliminate choice and destroy it, you are left with no alternatives.

The are taking away the smaller bread-and-butter items that tack shops rely on to make any profits.

But then could the same not be said for some of the larger tack shops, surely these too eliminate choice and are bad for smaller local tack shops.

Supermarkets are wonderful! If you have the time and desire to do a weekly shop in different shops, go for it - I love everything being under one roof. There is always some group saying it will put them out of business (pubs, milkmen), but it hasn't yet. There is room for everyone.

Buying an extra rug or pair of jods from Tesco won't harm the tack shops as as much as the tack shops lost trade from having trained fitters for hats or body protectors, keeping a large range of riding boots, jackets, breeches etc - which people try on for size and fit- then buy from ebay shops.

I bought my old retired boy a thick combi T/Out rug for £ 22 and it has been amazing. I wasn't expecting such good quality for the money but its just as good as those many times the price.

I have some tesco jods and their hi viz brushing boots that are fab.

I really do not think that the small range of stuff that Tesco sell is going to affect small tack shops any more than online buying - which everyone does. I love the principle of saying "tesco is a soul destroying monster trying to take over the world" - but the internet is only doing the same thing.
