Taking my boy at the end of the year to have his undescended testicle removed, he is insured with tesco .
Has anyone else had this op done with a dog insured by them ?
Says nothing in the booklet other than they don't pay out for castration . well would'nt expect them to , but no mention of vet recommended surgery for undescended testicles ,
Obviously going to have the op wether they cover it or not just curious .

They should pay for the difference between the regular cost and the extra time it takes. Very occasionally they pay for the whole lot - seeings it better for it to be off than left in place.

Ring them and ask them, thats the easiest thing to do.

well i found Tesco pretty useless as a dog insurer. They avoid paying at all costs, and my dog was ill. and eventually had to be PTS. They refused to say up front what they would pay for, just told me to get what I needed done, submit it to them and they would decide once they received it. So I would not be too sure about them paying. I agree ring and ask, and insist they send the authorisation to you in writing.

Thay should certainly pay for the undescended one as it possible life threatening condition, depending on how your vet words the claim they may ay the whole op. If not then the undescended one definately. As suggested though depends on their conditions and scamfulness.

I had an undefended testicle on my boy, I just paid for it as it wasn't a vast amount more than the usual castration costs anyway (depends on the size if the dog, how easy the testicle is to get to). I am pretty sure it would not be covered under the insurance but tbh with you the insurers always get their money back by hiking up your rates anyway! Definitely get it done, even if not covered as it really does need to come out.
