Does anyone have a Tesla Model X and if you do how do you find it to tow with? We are considering getting one but my main concern is that it won't be good enough to pull my trailer. Also that even if it does pull it, the battery will drain very quickly and so we won't get very far.

It is rated to tow up to 2300kg, I have 2 small horses (15.1hh and 15.3hh, not heavyweights) and a cheval liberte trailer which has an unladen weight of 980kg. Would that be ok for towing? The gross weight the trailer can handle is 2600kg, but I'm assuming I won't be near that with my two.

I was just hoping someone here had some experience of the car and might be able to say if it's ok or not. I love the concept of a fully electric car, but can't decide if I'll regret ditching the Land Rover for it.

I imagine you'd be around the 2,000kg with your two so you'd be within the range, it's just a question of performance. It might be worth looking at caravanning magazines. They often review cars for towing when they're launched. I know horse trailers are a bit heavier but they usually try to tow at or near capacity for the reviews.

Thanks for the replies, a good thought re looking at caravanning websites. I've done some research which suggests that the range is impacted quite severely, but it really varies depending on how heavy the stuff your towing is.

We've got a normal test drive booked but if we like it then maybe we'll ask about getting an extended drive so we can test the towing capabilities. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't realise that may be an option! Tesla do seem to do everything slightly different to other car manufacturers.

Thank you, that's really useful. I've done a bit of reasearch, but it's so difficult to tell how bad it'll be because I'm sure towing close to the limit will be even worse and let's face it my horse box isn't exactly a streamlined finish!

ROG - don't worry I did the test a few years back so have my B + E

I wish Land Rover would be a bit more open about its plans for that. I've had very mixed responses from sales people. Some have hinted that there is something much better than a hybrid on the cards and others have no clue. So far they basically have the diesel and the petrol is very much an after thought. It just seems frustrating that they are so far behind most other car manufacturers when it comes to the environment. Especially when I'm regularly in and out of London and I don't want another Diesel engine with all of the extra taxes they are chucking at them!
