Hi all, Not sure this is the right place for this query but I guessed most people who are familiar with hook up are competitors staying away! I bought a horsebox last summer which has hook up on it. The previous owner of the lorry didn't use it so I want to check it works as I'm going to Wales and West in April. I don't know where to go to plug it in as I would need a 3 pin plug in wouldn't I? If I do find somewhere to plug it in and flick the lights on to check it, how will i know if the lights are being fed by the hook up or the leisure battery? Apologies if I'm being really dim! Thanks x

I recently had a lorry fire due to the electrics in my living short circuiting (thankfuly caught early and only damaged was fried wired and some scorched wall carpet). I would highly recommend that before you go away in it at all you get a caravan electrician to do a habitability check and examine all the wiring in the lorry, they will also check your hookup as part of that.
It cost me £120 for a full check of all electrics and gas, and a full rewiring of the entire lorry. Well worth it for peace of mind.

I would also get them to install both a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm.
Oh and double check your fire extinguisher as mine had been in the lorry for so long that the pressure had dropped too low and it was useless! they should be checked and repressured every 2 years if they are not the special caravan sealed chamber ones. Thankfully the caravan next to us had a fire extinguisher.

you can get conversion leads that plug in to the round socket and have a normal 3 pin plug on the end. Worth keeping the the lorry anyway as can be useful to hook up to a generator etc.
