To all you good and confident and not so confident riders out there do you ever test your balance when riding in the school?

Like.....1, Rise and trot with your reins tied and your arms out stretched?

2, Cantering with no stirrups and reins tied, arms out stretched?

I did No. 1 the other day in the school, no problem, No 2 I had a wobbly moment when turning the corner but corrected myself.

It's a good little exercise to do from time to time like bareback riding.

Do any of you try this and any other little exercises?

Yep, I take my stirrups away and attempt to make my sitting trot better, and I bring my knees right up and then swing my legs out and down to try and get a better position, I think it helps.
Although since finding out Im pregnant, I wont be doing it for a while! lol

Blimey, if I cantered without holding the reins I think we'd jump out the school - now that really would test my balance if I didn't have any stirrups ;)

Ummmmm..... if I tried any of those 'exercises' on my firey youngster I'd end up on the floor. Guaranteed. :D

I used to jump with no hands, and then jump with no stirrups and trot with no stirrups.... jumping bareback in a headcollar was good, but hairy! haha, used to do it all the time, not necessarily for balance, more because it was just fun to vault onto the horsey and ride round the school haha :)
