So most of us get our horses vaccinated against tetanus, I thought I'd ask if you are vaccinated against tetanus? I get my horses done every other year but I can't recall when I last had a tetanus jab so it has to be something like 35 years ago!

I am indeed, but mainly because i went travelling tround indonesia n it was advised! A few people i know at the yard only tended to go if they cut themselves etc on rusty things... but thats the risky way!

I only got mine when I went to India in 2010. I assume I must have gotten one in School at some point?
I don't even know how often it needs to be updated!

I visited my local nurse clinic for some other vaccines recently and was asked when I last had a tetanus (20+yrs) and they were quite concerned. I was told I really should have one ASAP and keep upto date - which is contrary to what I was told when I asked for one at my previous doctors 3 yrs ago. I do work outdoors though and often encounter animals with tetanus.

I had cause to think I needed one last year due to a nasty cut. I understood a human needed one every 10 years to stay covered and I thought my last was border line time wise.
I was amazed when doctor told me after a certain amount in total (think it was 5 but not positive) you were covered for life and didn't need any more, ever.
I knew I had had at least the required amount but still opted for one anyway. Seemed a bit unlikely to me.

Have had loads over the years, courses of 3x2 and boosters worst was the one given to me in my AR** when I took the top of my first finger and crushed it when I was 14 I can remember it as if was yesterday:eek::eek::eek:

I had mine updated recently as it had been at least 12 years since my last one. The doctors were quite concerned as I work on a farm where we also have cattle. They also told me that it needs to be updated every 10 years but after 5 boosters you don't need to have anymore.

This made me wonder why we need to give our horses boosters every 2 years for the whole of their lives. If humans build up an immunity to tetnus with these boosters then why doesn't the same happen for our horses? Is this just another money making scheme for the drug companies and vets?

i had mine done last year when i got kicked by my girl in hand. i was more worryed about i had not had one in 10 years and we will go get you one...lol Hand was fine arm was not after the nice jab...lol

I had to have a tetanus jab when I jumped over a style to bring alf in and a rusty nail stabbed me in the backside!!! Was about 2 inch long erghhhh!!!! Anyhow my last booter jab was in 1993 (when I was 2 year old), must have missed the boosters at school!!
