Tetanus Jabs

Hi all,

3 of my girls tetanus jabs lapsed early this year and were restarted. This is tetanus only, not influenza. Penny had her first, then second jab on 11th December, Misty and Saffron's second was in the middle of January. Didn't realise Penny's had come around so soon, do I need to restart her's again?

Its just cost me £158 to re start my horses tetanus jabs because I was three weeks late!.

Thanks, just panicking now, will ring the vet tomorrow as there seems to be differing opinions, some say you have the first two, then the thrid one year later, and other say two years later. I'm confused.

First two 4 - 9 weeks apart, first update after one year then two yearly thereafter. Different vets vary though.

I've never understood why we can go 10 years between tet jabs but horses have to have them every other year. I guess it's because tetanus is in the ground so making horses more susceptable but happy for someone to explain why and convice me it's just not a rip off!

Agree with Donklet, some vets say they don't need the yearly booster after the initial two but others say its preferable.

Thanks everyone, we have an answer!

Just rang the vet's, they said that Penny should be able to get away with having her booster done ASAP, and Saf and Misty's can be brought forward, so I'm having them done at 11.30 today - job done
