My friends horse is well overdue his flu and tetnus vaccination! Will he be ok for tetnus until next year? as his owner cant afford to get him done.

Thanks

Tetanus is every 2 years once primary course is completed, so it depends whether his last vaccination was for flu and tetanus, or just flu.

It was a joint one flu and tetnus - at the same time - tired cant think properly :) will he be alright? he only hacks out very rarely

Flu is only compulsory if the horse is competing/doing events where lots of other horses are present. However you should only not do it if you have experienced adverse effects (ie where the vaccine produces worse consequences than the thing it is protecting against) as the horse community relies on everyone doing it to stop flu outbreaks and the misery for horses.

Tetanus is just a must do, no ifs no buts but it is only every other year

So if tet was done last time, it wont be due til next time if the horse is on annual jabs.

But it is a bit of a false economy not to do flu as they will have to start with 2 separate jabs next time if they miss it now.
