Took Dexter for the Ridden lightweight and working cobs. Early start, got to the show an hour before my class so plenty of time to work in and get ready. Got to the ring with 10 mins to go,there were some beautiful cobs waiting (inc Darcey Bustle- i think one of FMM's team) and i felt
with nerves, chatted to some friends to keep myself calm and then we were in. Dex was a star
walked out and trotted well then into a lovely soft canter, change rein and then he really went for it in the gallop. The judge pulled in Darcey Bustle then a nice bay and then pointed at me
She rode beautifully and brought him back with a grin
Then the strip off in which he managed not to look like a parts bin pony, back into the line up and she kept us 3rd
Not bad for a previously unshown cob who's primary job is hunter
Then into Working Cobs. I walked the course and it was a lovely up to height (2'6-9) with plenty of fillers- perfect for Dex.It was very noisey as there was a motorcycle stunt team revving like mad but that didnt bother Dex.I watched 2 rounds then we were in. Dex locked onto the first jump, gave it plenty of air then went disunited into the second ( not enough room to correct) but jumped the brush well- at this point i started to breath again! flew over the third (spread) & fourth (tiger trap) into the double and he really locked on- cleared the first but just tipped the rail off the second element. Another 2 spreads and an upright heading slightly downhill to finish on four faults Got called back in and just as the ride judge was about to ride the cob before Dex, all the Donkey classes arrived- braying their heads off- this was the last straw ontop of the Military Brass Band that had replaced the motorcycles and everyone got the giggles. The lovely coloured cob gave the judge a good ride and so did Dex who did a fab job of ignoring the heckling Jack donkeys 'giving it large' outside the ring.
I was absolutely delighted to get called in fourth as the highest faulter
All in all a fab day and Rog bought me these fab photos from www.horsepower-photography.com (really impressive outfit with fancy touch screen monitors to select your photos) and yes i really do need to get a better numnah and girth
