Thank you for your clipping advice

I would just like to thank you for your advice on getting my nervous cob used to the clippers.
I am a long way from him being easy to clip, but we managed a bib/chaser clip yesterday, along with a full hog up to his poll piece. No Drugs, just a strong sympathetic hubby!!
Going to keep up with all your tips, and hopefully by the time he is due to be done again i will manage him on my own.
Took advantage of the lovely weather and enjoyed a fantastic hack on him this afternoon without having to wash him down afterwards.

i would like some of this advice then cos we tried yesterday and i was really excited but alas no luck. he went beserk. since practising this weekend i can now get the clippers on him, but turned off, but near him but turned on! i think some sedolin is called for but other suggestions? well done on your clipping im so envious. mind you my boy made up for it with a wonderful hack tonight, canter gallop you name it, sharp and blissful

i was advised to take it slowly, to put an electrical toothbrush in a feed bucket underneath his usual feed bucket.
I actually just put some cordless clippers along side his bucket.
when we started clipping i groomed him first with the radio on so loud, when i turned the clippers on you could hardly hear them.
after resting them on my hand against his shoulder, i started to clip and stroke his neck. after a few tense minutes he settled and accepted them enough to allow a bib/ chaser clip.
my horse is quite head shy, from something that happened to him before i bought him. i dont think he would be problem for a full clip, but i am a long way off being able to clip his jaw!!

my horse is just a twitchy skinned type, hates anything buzzing near him. He's fine to groom, but i've now resorted to sedating him by the vet, tried sedalin, didn't work, been told twitching wouldn't be good enough as he needs to be still a long time for a hunter clip. SO going to book vet this week ....more vets bills.....urrrrrgh!
 
Cliped our new loan horse today, he was fabulous, and started grooming my husband vigourously when I clipped his sheath!!

Also hogged my boy (who I have had 10 years) he hasn't had clippers near him for over a year, and can be a bit nervy and tense, and he just stood there quite happy, I even clipped off his forelock by going from the front - very chuffed!
