Dear All
I would just like to say thank you so much for all your kind thoughts, words and advice.
We're one week on and life is a lot brighter with us, of course it is still tinged with sadness.
My mare seems fine, she stood over her baby for 2 1/2 days and then she knew. Joanna Vardon and others did their best to help her and tried to find a foal for her, to no avail. But she seems to be drying up and is having her 1st day out today (fingers crossed she doesn't do anything silly!). To make her smile (and my 3 children) we have got her a little 11.2hh 20yr young sec A mare to keep her company and they went prancing off in the paddock this morning together: )
She has been squirting all over the place for the past 3 days or so, I've never seen so much liquid apart from when she wees!! So she must be on her foal heat now. The lovely Jennie has said that she can go back to her for her next season. The vet is happy that she should be fine, so fingers crossed we'll have more luck this time.
Thank you all. Just a few questions:
The foal wasn't tested as my vet was away on holiday and I wasn't capable of thininking further(!) we are assuming that is was just a tragic accident, but just incase it was EHV should I vaccinate her before she goes away? I would dearly like a filly, any suggestions to weight in favour, however I will of course be over the moon with a live healthy foal this time next year, I'm keeping everything crossed.
Good luck to all those still waiting.
x
