I would like to thank the 23,000 horseriders who signed the www.ride-uk.org.uk/equestrianaccessnow.htm petition which closed on 31 July 2006. The petition is being presented to Barry Gardiner Member of Parliment the Minister for the Horse Industry.

Last month an EDM (Early Day Motion) had been tabled in the House of Commons in respect of Bridleways. EDM 2332 dated 08.06.2006. "That this house recognises the importance of Bridleways for horseriders to excercise in safety and enjoy the countryside; notes that many brileways are in bad poor condition or are abused by people using motorised vehicles; and calls on the government actively to promote the use of bridleways, to ensure that those who use bridleways inappropriately are fined, to look to extend the number of bridleways across the country and to ensure that existing bridleways are kept open and are well maintained for horseriders".

To date 167 MP's have supported the EDM. You can find out who your MP is at www.upmystreet.com You can see whether your MP has supported the EDM at http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMIN=30884&SESSIonfiltered=875

The CTC Cyling Touring club have joined forces with horseriders to support this motion.

If you use any cycling paths or there are any that you would like to use but are currently unable to do so the BHS British Horse Society would like to take this up with Sustrans (the body that governs the national cycling routes). Please Email this information to access@bhs.org.uk

The equestrian industry is the second largest land based industry in Great Britain and about 4,000,000 people ride regularly in Great Britain.
