Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions to try with my cushings shetland that I posted about a week ago. I was seriously considering having her put to sleep (very hard decision as I've had her about 23 years). However, having taken her completely off the grass and into the hardcore yard with no sugar in her diet and the addition of chaste berry powder in a tiny bit of speedi-beet seems to be working as tonight I noticed she was looking much more spritely. We have left her on the same 1/2 pill of prescend. Really hope she continues to improve. Thanks all, you may just have extended a little shetland life :)

great news, my mare was diagnosed with cushings in 2011 and although she is now on 3 1/2 prascend daily, she is loving life and is full of beans.....so there is a good chance that your little one will be the same. good luck..

That's really good news. I must say I'm impressed with chasteberry.. have been giving it to our oldie loan pony who's looking early stages Cushings... I am sure it's making a difference. Fingers crossed for yours.

I was in the same position as you two years ago. My shetland mare is 23 in February. Had her since she was six months. I just wanted to say if you haven't tested for insulin resistance it mght be worth a try.

Sorry posted before I had finished writing. If her insulin levels are high it can cause all sorts of problems. My pony is IR and I have put her on Magnesium oxide, she has never looked back. Its cheap to buy and tasteless so she doesnt know shes having it. Good luck.
