Hi All

After a start from hell (I won't go into details but have made the required apologies!) My mare settled and we popped some of the smaller logs and car park rails, plenty of galloping, it was fast and massively fun and everyone was really nice.

In the end I thought I may have spotted a few HHO's but got too nervous to say anything

I will keep an eye out for any other local and hackable meets in the future now we've broken our duck!

See you all again :)

Hey,
Glad you had a good day and that the weather sorted itself out. Well done for apologising, wouldn't dwell on it, sure others have done a lot worse. Your mare didn't kick the hound at the start did she? I think i may have spotted LindaW but other than that got a bit confused as to who i was looking out for and what horse they were on, going senile i think.
Was a fun day, wish it hadn't all been single file woodland as by second half horse was getting narky about it. But had some nice canter stretches, had my own space at the back of the middle and popped the smaller fences (with no style or grace but was happy as the horse has rep. as a stopper). Friend and i enjoyed it although the only thing hindering me most of the way round was low hanging bleeding branches! Got several thunks as did gangly chops that i was riding. But we had a good giggle at the end.
I think you probably heard me rather than saw me, i was excitedly gabbering the whole way round or having a conversation with the horse about why he needed to listen to me and duck ;)
Does anyone know if there were any photographers out?

Yes!

I rang MBH to check it was ok and it was fine thankfully
(hangs head in total shame)

After that start the minute anyone shouted hound we whipped about face quicksmart. I didnt hear a shout at all!

She was very scared of them, took off in opposite direction numerous times when we saw the pack!

An experienced huntsman told me that the 2nd hunt is always the worst, and although it was my first she went out last year, so hopefully she will get better as we go on.

Saw quite a few people in the woods hacking and walking, felt quite sorry for them having our load hooning towards them!

Nina, don't worry, accidents happen. You know for future now to keep an eye on her. We've all done something that makes us want to hang our heads so wouldn't worry. At least you apologised and rang up, that was nice of you. :)
I was just infront of you at that point then, sat just infront of fred most of the way round. I'm trying to think now what your mare must have looked like. I probably said hello without even realising it. :) She wasn't really really dark bay was she? with ribbons in her tail?

Yes we had the ribbons but not very useful for the hounds tho!

dark brown, 15.2

She is lovely - but very young and spooky!

Bred to SJ - King of Diamonds is GGS but she's scared of poles and fillers and pigs and sheep and cows and so on

Strangely in the past she's been fine with dogs, but then I think the pack at the start spooked her to hell when they went for the trail, I nearly fell off before we started. he he

Lesson learned the hard way unfortunately, but I will be back!

Me & Horsemad12 were there too! Didn't see anyone we recognised - but Nina did you have long red & green ribbons in your tail? If so we were quite close to you. Tended to be mid-pack for most of the afternoon.

It was my horses first time out and my normally well schooled, polite, well mannered boy turned into a complete thug. I had no brakes and got quite concerned down some of those muddy slopes and under the low branches! Still jumped everything going though!

I've just bought a pelham off ebay - never thought I would have to resort to something like that for him! Looking forward to the next one (I think) on 14th December - hopefully it will be a bit more open & galloping.

If you're the person i think you are Nina i reckon i was having a quick chat with you in the middle of the first run. Stuck in some woods (again) on a track waiting for something. If it was you then i reckon you were infront of me then with long green and red ribbons braided into her tail? If that was you then we were having a gasped chat about me nearly falling off, you having a sweaty spooky pony ;) I was behind on a 16.3 black gelding with a friend on a dappled grey 14.2 gelding.
Millie, sounds like we were all sat together and didn't realise it!

The 14th is a non OJD so i won't be attending ;) If it's the non optional broomhill i'm thinking of. Quite a lot of wood work but some nice open tracks too. And the water :O)

millie, were you just infront of freds crew? I know there were several native types around the middle, just trying to remember faces, pretty sure i was chatting to the girls on the exmoor and dun during the first run. Did u keep getting left behind and having to play catch up? Quite a few times i turned a corner and the front runners had disappeared and i ended up playing catch up. Pretty sure everyone behind me was frustrated as i was going at either a trot or canter, was trying to follow hoof tracks, not too easy at a faster pace ;O) Quite enjoyed it though as it meant i managed to get my own space all the time.
On second thoughts during the last run with the really really low branches i'm sure your friends were just infront of me.

Yes we were just in front of Fred most of the afternoon. We were close to 2 girls on a skewbald and a chestnut (that kept stopping at the jumps) and also close to Nick Bacon for a while.

My horse was being a complete *rse and I ended up trotting down a couple of hills and almost lost the front runners - luckily just managed to keep sight of them.

There were just a few too many trees for me (not fun slaloming round them trying not to whack your knees, then having to duck under the low branches - as soon as I bent forward ponio took it as his cue to p*ss off!)

Not sure that you were who i thought then, think you must have been more towards the front than i was. I kept getting stuck behind a few that kept stopping, hence why in the end i went out on my own a bit and kept a good distance away. Second half i had to check quite a lot as horse kept trying to canter off through the mud, cantered down that steep grass hill as idiot boy couldn't contain himself. Think he'd got bored by that point and just needed a good trot or canter out on the open ground. Nice to do a few of the logs, there was one fence off the road into a dip and sharp right hand bend that was slightly dodgy but still fun.

I didn't make it, babysitter let me down the day before, I knew the day would be too fast to take wee one on the lead, she's not ready to come off hunting yet.

Got sorted for Edwinstowe on 13th (I think?)

Heres a piccie of us for anyone looking (normally I'm in a black coat - this was a hound exercise day) Please do say hello and don't be scared!

Glad you had a good day out, sorry about the incident at the start, but seems no harm done.

Midlander - yes I remeber that chat, yours was lovely looking! we were sweaty and spooky (me and her!)

Millie - I remember your group, my mum was in love with the exmoor, (she is vertically challenged) I think she wants one for xmas!

At the moment we are only going to those that are hackable, I haven't even tried loading her yet, I have had enough challenges already this year.

There is south notts meet that is coming up soon but having seen the threads posted on here, they might be a bit much for us! I will ask around I'm sure someone at our place will know. But will stick to Kids and OJD for this season for sure.

LindaW, good job i didn't go over to the lady on the chesnut that i thought was you then! ;) Would have been cringeworthy huh. (Broomhill the 14th)

Nina, Unfortunately he's not mine. He's a friends who i'm riding at the mo as friend is unable to do much due to back injury, he's a lovely daft lad. Was good as gold really since it was his first day out since closing meet in April. Plus i'd never hunted him before so was really happy with him.

I'll not be out until January now with the readyfield. Hopefully if wymeswold on this sun i will be following on foot.
