As I am going for my next ankle op in a couple of days Im going to put down a bed for panni so the stable is ready at a moments notice if needed. Although we will try to keep her out as long as the weather isnt too bad.
I dont want to stray away from the easibed that we normally use but as Im (hopefully) going to be in a leg cast for the next few months I want to deep litter until spring.
I was thinking about using a base layer to add extra absorbancy as there is a small leak in the roof which adds slightly to the wet. Has anyone else used megazorb or wood pellets under their shavings or choice of bedding?
If so what are your thourghts and opinions on this idea or if you have a better suggestion?

Have used both Megazorb and woodpellets, but not under shavings. I would say that megazorb is the most absorbent bedding ever, wonderful stuff. Wood pellets are great too, if you put them on the base I would barely add any water to them.

I didnt really like megazorb, my horse is extremely dirty and i seemed to be putting in lots of bags a week as the bags are quite small, also i found it got quite dusty, aubiose is good as is nedzbedz, i tried the nedzbedz advance which was good although again the bags are quite small.

I tried megazorb under straw and shavings... rubbish. Smelly and used loads so was really expensive. I wrote an article for the BHS all about bedding. I found that the best bedding was shredded newspaper; cheap, clean, no smell at all, just remove clumps of wee and poo. Did not get stirred around and kept horse clean so long as in a decent enough depth.

Second choice would be a white 'wood' based strand type bedding like cushion bed or similar, or something like aubiose. I kept this deep litter and it was great; no smell, warm, and just removed droppings every day from the top. Soon forms a firm base. Top layer never seemed to be wet and only used one bale a week despite the fact I had a massive horse!

straw is too smelly. I had that urine smell. Make sure you cover your cast in an airtight bag as they really pick up the smells and it is horrid to settle at home on the sofa and notice your leg smells like an old incontinent tramp!!!!!
