Oh dear, looks like it's time to root the clippers out from the back of the tack room and think about giving them a damn good servicing ;)
Little Miss Cobby has a coat like a wooly mammoth already, and if we plan on doing anything even remotely exciting then she needs to be scalped! Plan on clipping in the next couple of weeks.
Soooo... My query is - is there a battery pack to adapt your mains clippers? I don't have electric at my yard, and prefer not to link 3 or 4 extension leads together and feed them from the neighbour's through the hedge and across to the stables (even though its vvv kind of them to let me!). I have Liveryman Arena blue's, and have had a quick google search to no avail, it just keeps bringing up clippers that come with a battery pack like the Liveryman harmony. Am I imagining it that there's a separate battery pack that you can plug your normal bog standard mains clippers into? If it doesn't exist already, then BAGSY, mine for Dragons Den! :p :)

Love it Laura, looking forward to seeing you on dragons den. I had a great idea last week, when doing something down the stables, that I was going to patent, but for the life of me, I can remember what it was. :(
As for the battery packs, I've seen mains or battery but not a combo, so best of luck with finding one. Let me know if you do!!!

As far as I know the large clippers are either mains or battery and they function slightly differently, my mains clippers run faster than my battery run ones, I run those from my car battery with a lead so totally mobile and free to run.

Lol Popeye!
Thanks BP :) Didn't know that!
Looks like I may be investing in a small generator then, or sticking to my mile long extension lead! lol

Didn'tknow you coud do that, a great tip. I'll remember when I have to replace my Lister Liberty clippers.

If you have a Mains clipper, you can run it from a decent size twelve volt leisure battery, using a device called an INVERTER. firstly, look at the WATTAGE of your machine, it will normally say 75W.......150W........300W Etc. then get an inverter that will cope with that load. As a rule of thumb, I would be inclined to purchase an inverter that is aways rated above the wattage of my machine. IE: If you have a 90W machine, get an inverter rated up to 150W. This will cope with any fluctuations in wattage drawn by your clipper when under load.

An inverter is basically a box, with a set of battery leads one end and a standard three pin plug socket on the other. Using electronic jiggery pokery (tech term!) it takes 12 volts and steps it up to 240 volts. Ideal where you need to run a mains item and only have battery. Mst inverters come with built in overload protection and the neccesary leads. HOWEVER A WORD OF WARNING..........to anyone who uses an inverter...........always remember that even though you are only putting twelve volts in, you are generating MAINS VOLTAGE, therefore ensure you adopt all the safety precautions you would, if clipping at your yard.

If you are looking for an inverter at the right price I suggest Maplins electronics, follow the link, avoid the ones which plug into your car cigarette lighter, you need one of the bigger box type ones.

Perhaps this s a cost effective way of clipping with your mains clipper when in an area without mains power.

The link below will give you a bit more info on how inverters work, it is American, so don't be confused by references to 110v the theory is the same as over here with 240 volts being produced.

My opinions are free, but please remember they are "my opinions"

Happy Clipping

This is probably too expensive but they are SO useful:

It's meant as a car jump start - basically it's a rechargeable battery with built in jump leads. Fab if you have an unreliable car, like me! No more running around begging to be jump started...

But it also has a household outlet - basically a mains power socket. I haven't tried clipping with it - no idea how long it would last before needing to be charged, you might need a couple of sessions.

I have seen a British Version and the advert your link points to has a typo error.....It should say "Plugs into a household outlet" IE to charge it up, it does not supply mains voltage, merely a strong 12 volt supply for jump starting cars, which is a shame!
