So I took my mare out yesterday to a riding club group lesson to get her used to company again- she has been on and off work (mostly off) for 20 months due to a range of injuries and illnesses- tbh the last 5 years have been injuries and illnesses- but hopefully we've turned a corner! So she came back into work january- very slowly long reining/ hacking and has been with my instructor for 4 weeks schooling- I thought it would be a nice idea to take her to the lesson as she has been such a super star its been like riding a new horse- I'd forgotten that she found company exciting in the past- and as she hadn't been out for a v long time she would find this trip quite fun- Que me being bucked off after being on board approx 3 mins- I didn't see it coming at all!! Got back on but as she was throwing her self around/ up down/ all four feet before we left walk- I retired from the lesson after 5 mins- waited for them to finish and lunged and schooled afterward! (She was beautiful- butter wouldn't melt! Medium trot/ canter/ acute transitions- who said she misbehaved?!)
Cringing now remembering people's faces as they we walking around on their well behaved horses as mine is squeeling and thowing itself around I'm sure they will dread me turning up again!!

I can beat you! :p

Chestnut mare once dumped me before I even made it into the school for my lesson. It was super embarrassing as everyone was watching but she did a whip round so fast that I was shot out of the side door.

The next time I ended up leading her into the school and then walking her in-hand around on both reins before I mounted and it really helped her settle.

*giggles*

Don't worry, it happens. Our local PC was having a session with a BE trainer, my daughter who the trainer knew quite well (luckily), had our lovely Flynn out. Flynn can get VERY excited. The outdoor school they were using is about 80 x 60 IIRC. I could hear lots of "oooh" and "ahhh" and squeaks coming from the other PC mums so I wandered over to have a look in time to hear the trainer say something along the lines of "OK everybody stay up at the far end of the school and keep out of Flynn's way until she gets him under control, just ignore him, she will get him under control . . . eventually". Flynn was in full on five year old stallion mode, leaping about, screeching, making random attacks on thing he felt needed it (like jump stands, dressage marker letters etc) and generally showing off to his new audience. One of the mums turned to me and said "Is that a new horse?" "No, not really" I replied. "Oh, is he very young?" she asked. "No, he's 16" I said. At this point they closed ranks and decided I was obviously a nutter.

The naughty old thing is now 20 and still has his wicked moments!

Last year I went xc schooling with dafthoss on here and managed to fall off just cantering around before even tackling a fence :o

Worst of all, pony didn't even do anything  Very embarssing - but that's horses for you :D

Oh dear, my boy freezes when he's surrounded by a lot of horses or gets worried. He decided to do this to me at a major county level show just as we walked into the ring infront of about 200 people, I could hear people saying 'ahh look he's got stage fright etc' after hours of getting ready I had to get off him in the ring and literately pull him out. He then went like a dream in the collecting ring. I've never been soooo embarrassed. And I can't take him anywhere where he can't see the ring before going in! 😳

I have twice fallen off my horse before I had even really mounted! We have an RDA ramp at our yard and they sometimes put a big plastic green mounting block on the lower mounting platform. I hadn't had Max very long and I just pushed the mounting block out of the way, put my foot in the stirrup went to mount he suddenly spotted the block lept sideways and I hit the sand he the proceeded to gallop around the school and I had to get my YM and another livery to help me catch him!

Second time I was at Keysoe of all places and my friend's husband offered to give me a leg up. Well he obviously didn't know the 1,2,3 up rule and pushed me up at 2. Because I didn't spring I didn't have the momentum to get my leg over max and I sort of hung there for a minute. Max freaked jumped sideways squashing the person holding him and I fell to the floor he then ran out of the carpark, across the lane (luckily very quiet) and came to a stop in the show stable block! I wish I could say we did an amazing dressage test to redeem ourselves but we got 49%!

He is a real panicker and I am working on calming him down when things go wrong but I always take a carrot in my pocket in case we part company!

Yesterday I went out for a hack in company for the first time since joining my yard. The other horse was being walked (rider injury) and I was on my so-called safe pony. For a full hour he screamed for his girlfriend and was a major handful. All 12hh of him. Have you ever seen a grown woman fighting with a 12hh exmoor, like he's a 17hh racehorse? THAT is an embarrassing image! For good measure when I got back, I had to circle all the way down the drive as he kept breaking into a power trot (downhill on concrete), he reared at the stable door because I had the cheek to leave him while I went down for his girlfriend (other horses were on the yard!) and whilst I was getting his girlfriend, another horse in the field galloped at the gateway tape whilst I was holding the handles. I had chance of keeping hold and she galloped all the way up to the yard, with me cowboy wrestling my other exmoor who I was determined would NOT get away (she was rearing and lunging away).

All this because they moved to another field. You'd think we'd put them on the moon with cocaine instead of grass. My only saving grace was that the YM had to abandon plans of bringing in two as usual, as they were trying to charge with her as well. Frikkin 'orses!

Took daughters hairy highland pony out for a hack on saturday with friends.....headed off to meet them, and decided to go into the woods, which involved going back past my yard.
My other 2 were very excited to see their stable mate coming back, along with two other friends and galloped around the field like lunatics....

Friends horses totally ignored them....my pony however decided that
a) he'd just been out on a short hack, what did I mean by trying to make him go past the yard?
b) he wanted to join in the bucking and rearing display that was going on in the other field.

So he did.....

Small hairy pony doing bucking bronco / mountain goat impression and full on front-leg waving, the little horror......I got off at this point, before I fell off in full view of the bus-stop.:o
