so, brought moses the section d back into work last week, as the weather has been so good, he'd not been sat on since october and was being a pain to mount, so i had an idea, went to tack room and grabbed a pocket full of equibites and shoved a big handful in his mouth while i got on, this was fine, as it was fine the next day...... but today the crafty sod stood like a rock while i got on and then refused point blank to move, just put his head round to my foot and chortled at me for food

did get him going though but may have to rethink the treats!! i am reluctant to put him in a corner by the fence though as i once saw a nasty accident when the horse spooked and the rider came off and hit the fence really badly......ideas please!!

Reminds me of my mare when I bring her in from the field. I got into the habbit of taking a treat for her while I put her head collar on, but one day forgot the treat and she refused to walk. They are so crafty but you have to see the funny side.

it certainly will, mate!!!!!

TBH, i'm not ne who believes in the "he must stand still for me to get on" theory......

sometimes it's safer to hop on whilst being on the move...i find youngsters are actually easier to mount if they aren't "made" to stand....

We put an L of bales for the big girl to learn to stand still while being mounted and had me hanging on the bridle and the stirrup! She is 17hh and sister certainly could not hop on while she was moving! Scootint at that height is not an option

I think it just takes persistance and someone to help, I am sure he will soon learn what you want. Pickle didnt used to stand still but after a couple of weeks of always making him he knows too

JM07 - allthough in theory your idea seems all well and good, trying to get on a moving 17.1hh is impossible!
