The shoes came off today and i feel awfull which i knew i would, he seems comfy in his stable, is soooooo sore on the conrete yard. i havnt tried him in the pea gravel paddock yet though so hopefully hel be comfy in their. i just have to stick at it and not let the sorry look in his eyes make me go back to shoes as i really want to give this a go! does it get better?

aww..... he will be ok, I remember taking Freckles off (and she was heavily in foal at the time) and she was really footy, not helped by the fact its very stoney here... but 4-5 years old, you should see her gallop over my land, and shes never been lame since they have been off..

good luck with him

Feet are naturally sensitive to feel going. This is a new experience for your horse at this time. I am sure eventually he will get used to the feeling of the ground. We would find no shoes an experience too so give him time to accustom. Both mine are fine, but it took me a while to believe too. Riding on roads and normally slippery surfaces is now a pleasure and I know my horse is more confident on all surfaces. He is no stone cruncher, but does find his way round regardless. Well worth perseverance. Hang in there!;)
