That's it then - winter starts today!!

Well that's it - our "winter" officially starts today as the horses are coming in...... I daren't put it off much longer as our grass is going off and I need to preserve it as much as possible.

At least we'll have the luxury of turning out / bringing in when it's still daylight for the next couple of months I suppose....

On the upside - at least the chubby pony will lose a load of weight!

Am I the only one whose having to do this?? (Please tell me no otherwise I might cry

)

Mine have been brought in over on a night for the last fortnight but managed to put them back out two days ago. With all the wet weather, their hooves resemble ploughs!

Have just seen the weather forecast - guess what, more rain.

Mine have been in during the day all summer - complete porkers otherwise ... So no rest from mucking out for me, but at least they look reasonably trim

mine have been in 2 weeks now- despite having absolute swathes of grass in the field, they were both waiting at the gate to be fed every night.

they're in a month earier than planned, but i'm hoping that it'll help them keep their weight on over winter, and that Solo's mud fever wont be quite as bad as last year....

I quite like having them in anyway.

ours are in during the day at the moment so that a) my horse doesn't get sunburn b) my sisters horse doesn't make his hayfever worse (yes he is weird!) and c)they don't chew up the grass too much with their larking about!!

but from the next couple of weeks they'll be back out for 24hrs, and will stay that way until hunting starts on 1st november hopefully... unless the weather turn really revolting!

and then they will be in until end of march!! i can't be bothered having them in for any longer than that! don't get me wrong they are fed and rugged etc between september and april, but just not in at night!

Mine will be coming in later today. Noticed yesterday he has some rather nasty mud fever scabs (bloody mud fever always catches me out no matter how carefully I try and check for it)... left him out as his skin was lovely and dry but with all the rain forecast he'll have to come in and keep out of the wet until they are properly healed.

Don't think he is going to take too kindly to being brought in...

How depressing!!

Mine wont be coming in until the last Sunday in October thank goodness. He has been stripped grazed and there is tonnes of grass left for over the winter.

Oh god no!

Mine won't be coming in for another 2 and a half months yet. Try to leave them out as long as possible to a) avoid mucking out and b) to keep them sane as they really like being out 24/7.

we're really lucky where ours are - plenty of space so they get to stay out all year and they love it. they only come in if there is particularly bad weather!!
