Herbie has definately hit this big time. It's not that he is naughty as such, just a bit of a teenager, reminds me very much of Kevin, everything is hard work, then we leap about like a looney at a bird flying out. He's also being a complete prat in his field losing shoes all the time and today trying to entangle himself in the mains electric fence( he's ok!). I have found almost all the youngsters that I have brought on go through this 'phase', what are your experiences?

Mine's going through it at the moment. I'm nursing nasty bruised ribs and knees from going splat off him yesterday. Little s*d. I think the "joys of spring" has coincided with teenager time and those of that age are losing the plot a bit!

Hey, my two boys have never grown out of it, Wills is a constant div and Oshk is just high on life! Cracker has just gone through that whole mardy 5year old bit though- it only lasted a month, fingers crossed H grows out of it quickly!! xx

Yes! In the last few days my 5 year old has decided he doesn't like being lead from the field and just plants his feet. The only way I can get him in is to shout for my other horse and he'll happily follow him in. He also won't be lead from the stable across the yard with just his reins, I have to put a lead rein on him, he's driving me mad! When I get on him though he's ok, he's fantastic when I take him out on hacks so I soon forget his antics. It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone.

Had an awful time with mine as a 5yr old not helped by him damaging his hind suspensory in the field resulting in 6 weeks box rest and three months off work - I can tell you that wasn't fun. He's finally starting to grow up aged 10yrs but I think 5 was by far his worst year. Good luck with yours!
