I consider Sarah a friend and this morning I emailed her for some advice, I am the lucky owner of a beautiful, nearly 40 year old New Forest mare. She has lived on The Forest for nearly all her life and we managed to buy her when she was heading for Longleat as lion meat, we thought she would have a year or two of "the good life" with us before we had to say a dignified goodbye to her. Well that didn't work and 7 years later she is still with us and thriving.
This morning I went out to hay her and the others and she was hopping lame, I suspected an abcess. What to do? Mary has trust issues with humans, we can look after her well on a day to day basis, but vets are a difficult concept to her. Anyhow, I emailed Sarah for advice and like the super hero she is within three hours she was on my doorstep. How she understands horses I will never know, Mary and I have been "friends" for seven years and I believe she thinks I'm an alright human but with Sarah she is unbelievable ( this wasn't the first time). She was hopping lame but allowed Sarah to lead her away from her herd, well that was amazing enough, but then Sarah managed to hut tub her foot and poultice her with no help at all, it was breathtakingly amazing. We have the vet coming out and dear Sarah is coming an hour earlier so we can be nice and organised, and "train" the vet if necessary.
Sarah, if you ever read this bless you for helping my lovely Mary mare. Xx
