Yes, good to see them raising awareness of the problem but not too sure how the message would have come across to non-horsey people. I've had no end of people come to say they are going to let off "a few" fireworks and just want to warn me so I can get the horses in the stables, as if that is going to solve the issues. Nice to be warned but.............

I must admit, as an avid Archers listener, Ive learned quite a lot about farming over the years via the storylines. They have a dedicated agricultural advisor to help them get their facts straight. Its such a shame they don't have an equestrian advisor too...the scriptwriters definitely make the horsey stuff up as they go along.
Does anyone remember the immortal line that was said when one character was admiring the way another character was riding a horse....'you can tell he's such a good rider by the way he grips with his heels..' I kid you not!

I was once asked to advise on a story line by a writer. Absolutely no idea what they went with in the end but I remember just repeatedly saying "NO it just wouldn't happen like that"

Ooh… try and remember, and I’ll see if I can remember the storyline, and what daft(very probably) ending they came up with 😂
It will definitely have involved lots of whinnying and neighing whenever there might be a horse in the scene (although they seemed to have somewhat reduced their obsession with this over the years). And the horse will have a name that makes it sound like it was born either in the 1950s or in a pony book 🤣

The irritating thing for me (well, one of them) was that they knew the fireworks were going to happen, but made the wrong choice in leaving the horses out.
A better story imo would have been that the Not on November 5th fireworks happened with no prior warning
Lilian's suggestion that next time they bring them in and leave a radio on seemed bonkers to Alice - honestly, why is that girl running the stables? She's completely clueless.
Then her and Mia storming off to The Bull to demand there be no more fireworks was pretty entitled, I'm glad Kenton told them to jog on.
Fireworks must have been going off in Ambridge forever. Whatever her faults (which were many) you never got all this drama when Shula was in charge

Plus it’s been pointed out on Twitter

1)the practice is at the stables. So when lils is on the phone to Jacob he’s literally a few yards away! (Unless the field is miles away from the stables which I doubt) plus no vet would ask Alice to get the horse up by herself whilst he sorted himself out. He’d need to supervise because: injured horse!!!!

2) this is a small satellite practice to the main one (in Felpersham? Borchester?) because Alasdair set it up then sold out to the bigger practice.

3) they simply wouldn’t have the facilities for a big op there. (Knockdown box maybe. Full operating room and associated things needed doubt it)

5) again the practice is at The Stables cos Alasdair was married to Shula so it was sensible. Where the bloody hell was Jacob that he had to get there ‘as soon as he could’! He was literally NEXT DOOR to the field

Presumably this is all leading up to Alice getting sued by horse’s owners.

And don’t get me started on Eddie’s Halloween machinations!! 🤣

Gotta love The Archers!!

I may have been making disparaging comments at the radio ... did I get it right that Jakob did the op under GA at the stables?
I hope the storyline gets the message across, but I think they forget to ask their equestrian advisors sometimes :)

I wondered about where this op was done, under GA, on a horse that was down .. at a little 2 man practice?! And she's home a day later, after major surgery!!

I refer the honourable member to my post above yours!! 🤣

(The answer is we’d all forgotten the vet practice is at The Stables. Plus other points raised above)
