Ive just got back from the Carl Hester demo and if anyone gets the chance to go its definately worth it.

He worked all his horses really round and over their backs and only brought them up for short periods. When he did bring them up they looked amazing.
None of his horses looked amazing to begin with, they didnt make you go wow, and just looked like average correct dressage horses. The transformation in them was so incredible. I definately agree with Carl's method of training and think that too many people are too obsessed with getting their horses up in front rather than letting them stretch over their backs. Valegro is to die for, I just love his hid leg. Charlotte is so lucky.
And the thing that I liked most was the fact that my instructor has been doing exactly the same thing with me.

I went to two of his demos (40 minutes each) at YHL. I had the same experience, I thought he was great. Also unlike some demos with some of our top people, I came away having learned things to apply to my training with my own mare (and we're only at prelim!). Not only does he show wonderful training and work with top horses or highly talented, athletic youngsters, but he tries to relate it to the audience and give advice for 'ordinary' horses!

I would love a lesson with him too... I keep saying I would like one for my birthday

But Spencer teaches very much like Carl does at the demos, and he works with me a lot of the time in a lower position.

Who have you been having lessons with?

My YO is my instructor, shes not got a big name but shes fantastic and really knows her stuff. Unfortunately shes just sold her yard and is eventually moving abroad

I think shes arranging for Andrew Day to come up and do some clinics when she goes.

I would love a lesson with Spencer too. I keep looking on the Arkenfield website but right now I cant do midweek

Ah... I thought she had already moved abroad so assumed you had found someone new

You will have to book a day off and come over and have a lesson with him

Im hoping one of my rest days will fall on a day he does his clinics. If not I'll have to wait until July.

Its so hard to find an instructor up here. Theres just no-one around.

Wasn't it excellent!!!

I was looking out for you...

I thought the transformation shown in Fernanadez was inspirational. Most demos I've been to have involved "guinea pigs" so I found it really refreshing to watch lovely horses being shown off and learn from how it's achieved - although there was a guinea pig element when Charlotte was riding!

I know, I couldnt believe the difference either. He just looked like an ordinary horse to begin with. Theres hope for Gin yet.

I just love his methods of training.

I think I saw you walking back after the break but I was a bit too far away to shout.
