The Best Bedding...In Your Opinion?

My favourite is definitely shavings but they are so expensive so i am on straw which i have to say i like quite a bit too!

i'm the same as JJ2, favourite has always been shavings (so long as you have a semi tidy horse) but on straw now as it so much cheaper (and use as much as you want within reason at my yard)

I'm a convert to the chopped straw bedding. I use bliss which smells lovely, and its so easy to muck out, as well as being raelly absorbant. Its great as the wet patches don't move, you can scrape the clean off the top and around and then you are left with a little wet patch which scoops up really easily. Thats what I didn't like about shavings, you could never easily seperate the wet from the dry.

Another for chopped straw, though I use NedzBedz (which also smells lovely).

Going somewhere for hols at the end of the month that has some kind of red clay bedding, which sounds interesting.

Has anyone tried chopped/shredded paper? I have always wondered about this stuff? Obvisously, grey/light coloured horses may end up with last weeks news printed on their belly, but can't be any worse than good ol' stable stains??

Is it cheap? Easy to get? could you use it with rubber matting instead of woodchips?

Sorry, never heard of this type of bedding - what does it cost per bale (I presume its a bale) and how many do you start a stable with and use per week?

Thanks

The chopped cardboards squares/paper looks really good actually and its cheap ( i think about £3 for a huge sack) , and me 'orse was on it at Liphook for a week and he was happy with it and his boxed stayed really clean! ( hes a messy monkey lol!)

p.s. i do love a really deep bed of straw, but i quite like deep shavings if its a tidy horse !

shredded/chopped paper for me - love it, makes a nice bed and I get away with about a bale a week, really very easy to muck out and the floor dries so quickly when the bed it left up for 10 mins!]

Mine is chestnut but has white legs and splattered tummy - he has never had any problems with ink on his tummy or anything!

Both are on shredded paper from work!

Grey girlie has never had an issue with ink. It makes a lovely fluffy deep bed and very easy to muck out....
