Hi i have just bought a new saddle (Barnsby schockemohle in tabacco/oak) and i am after your helpful tips on the best leather feed / polish to use as i have been very stuck in my ways and have always used Hide Food - which is good for the leather in the long run but can leave it a bit tacky and quite dull.
Any advice? :O)

Grand Prix Leather Gloss - only available online I think. I've only recently started using it and it's the best leather treatment I've ever found.

I use the albion balm on mine, its quite soft and does leave it a bit sticky at first but it soon soaks in, it makes the leather go soft really quickly too as it acts a bit like oiling.

The lady at albion said to use it every other time you clean your tack and just use the normal albion saddle soap inbetween then it doesnt clog up the leather :)

I make my own, based on a recipe given to me by a hunting friend:

2 x carr day and martin glycerine soap
1 pt full fat milk

Gently melt down and leave to set for 24 hrs in container before use.

It makes a really soft, creamy, conditioning soap and brings up even the dirtiest hunting tack lovely! My tack has never been so shiny or supple and it lasts ages.

I've heard of this made with evaporated milk instead, an old hunting groom used to make it.
