in the further quest to make suddenly-stroppy-mare super-comfy, please can people recommend the best sheepskin-lined girths? i don't think i want a cover for a normal girth in case it ruckles up, i'd prefer one that can't do that.) the one on Carl's horse at Nationals looks fab.
umm, whose saddles does he ride in now? i wonder if it's one of theirs...
thanks!

I've got a Frank Baines which has detachable sheepskin (with velcro) which makes for easy wasking. Excellant quality both leather and sheepskin.

Not too cheap, I think its about £135 from Classic Dressage

*tack-nerd alert* I believe that is an Amerigo girth and the sheepskin lining is by Mattes for Amerigo.

I have one for sensitive, girth-hating mare and it is really good. (though it is costing a fortune to have it smothered in hair conditioner before every wash!)

It is an Amerigo... The Frank Baines ones are beautiful...

Ironically enough I can't use it anymore because my ridiculously sensitive TB gets a sweat rash with anything other than just plain leather! But I wouldn't hesitate to recomend it to people with 'normal' horses!

I've got the Frank Baines one for my jumping saddle and it is excellent. The sheepskin washes up well, even after several XC rounds! I had the FB dressage one, but it wasn't quite the right shape for my horse so I've now got a curved dressage girth which Stroud Saddlery adapted for me so it was sheepskin with velcro lined too.

What about the good old fashioned stubben string girth? the physios think they are the most comfortable ones out there!

that's what i'm using at the moment.... obviously not quite comfy enough for sulky madam...!

So do Professional Choice - we just got one for slightly girthy 3 year old and he seems pretty happy with it - was £85 with detatchable sheepskin!

K - does your saddle have long or short straps?

I've got an Amerigo dressage girth with a mattes sheepskin and it can't ruckle up due to shape - you're welcome to try it if you want. It's stopeed H doing that silly humping thing he sometimes does and is nowhere near as tight/tense when I first get on with it

We've also got a long kieffer neoprene girth that Deeds prefers by a long shot as she is quite girthy - again you can try that - think i've got a wide flat web one too
