Depends on exactly which bit has the dressing on really. But in general, a figure of 8 shape so it doesn't either loosen or pull when the knee bends. And bandage a good few widths above & below too for security.

The amount of money I spent in dressings and vetrap that were off in no time, this would have been the cheap option

I was bandaging for months though...

I would put a knee boot on over the top of the dressing. Are you using vetwrap or an elastic bandage ?

If the majority of the top half of the figure of eight is above the knee, where the leg is narrower, reinforced with a few horizontal widths above too it shouldn't slip. I also find using the bandages you get for people with a bit of stretch helps too. And if its secure, bit of vetwrap over bandage to stop muck seeping through.

This is very true! This injury although nasty i'm hoping (praying) wont take too long to heal.
I found a local place selling vetwrap type bandages for £1 so have stocked up on those, bargain!

I will have another try tonight taking (printing these tips!)

Disposable nappies, vetwrap, duck tape :)

Aha, this was the other idea i had- nappies. I will pop into Tesco this evening after work.

Littlelegs i never really considered People bandages. My dad has a pile from the hospital but after experimenting with my vet kit decided vetrap's better so maybe he will swap! ;-D

Figure of 8 and add stable bandages to both forelegs, the bulk of fibregee + bandage blocks the knee bandage coming down without having to get it tighter. It's usually more gravity shift - just needs a seat.

I never liked vertwrap much. Each circuit grips idividually so any slight flaw in rythym (can NEVER spell that word!) can't ease or self correct. It has it's place but mostly I'd rather use a tail bandage, it's still elastic but it has some chance to shift.

Never minded vets using it though - just made me windy!

The pressage bandages are brilliant but very fiddly if trying to apply it by yourself! When we had to bandage both of my daughter's horse's knees (dont ask!) vet used a dressing first, followed by soffban (sp?), followed by an elasticated bandage, followed by gamgee/cotton wool, followed by vetwrap and then finally the pressage bandage! To finish it off we then used elastoplast tape around the top to help stop it slipping down  Good Luck!

People bandages are good, they have stretch but not as rigid or thick as tail bandages. Also had a horse years ago who seemed to require almost daily wound treatment so did a lot of experimenting with cheap but quick & effective alternatives!

You don't say why he is being bandaged, but you put a dressing on a wound, then you use softban and every other bandage to make sure the knee is well overed above and below. There are nasty tasting vet wraps to prevent chewing on bandage
