Just wondered if anyone has any ideas to best approach people near me who i can see have land/ stables they are not using to ask if I can rent them?!!

Come September (if no livery spaces have come up at my current yard) I will have to find somewhere and as i am currently renting off a private household i wouldnt mind doing this again!

As we also rent our house i would like to find someplace with a little land (in an ideal world!) I ride past soooo many places, all empty and wonder why people buy houses with stables and then do not use them?

Put a letter through their door, with your address on it and a telephone number. Explaining that you are looking to rent some stables and land - and would theirs be available????

Do you know them at all?
Our neighbours sold their horse recently and kindly let us use their fields which is fab, but we know them quite well!
However they did have someone else they don't know come and ask and they would have been happy to let her use it I think as she seemed pleasant.

I just went and knocked on peoples' doors. It was better than a letter as they got to see me face to face and also stopped them "forgetting" to respond to a letter.

I found people were very friendly and helpful. I now rent a small yard with three stables and three fields. It is perfect for me and i am very happy.

Good luck finding somewhere.
