Its just the best news ever and what ive been wanting to hear for ages. So as shes been out of work now for 2 years, im going to start taking her out in hand before I get back on. Cant wait!
 
no I cant. Even though she hasnt worked for 2 years, she hasnt been lame for 2 years. She slightly pulled a tendon in 2005 but was dodgy when ridden because of her ringbone, so we put her in foal. Turned her away all winter then ive just weaned Willow 3 weeks ago so all in all its 2years shes had off. Saying that though for the past god knows how many months shes been lame so im so so so pleasded that i went down the barefoot trimming for her because its worked wonders in only 2 trims!
 
2yrs is a long time but not lame for all that time. Shes been lame with shoes on and lame with a normal farriers trim, so thought id got nothing to lose if i tried barefoot trimming with her. Well 2 trims now and shes no longer lame!!! I always hoped I could ride her again and its come true

Hows missy doing?
 
Becki im over the moon. Mum said jokingly today. "Well youre going to have to sell one of your horses now as now youve got 3 horses its just too many to ride, compete and keep fit!" - SOD OFF comes to mind!!

Jags - i am - just cant say how thrilled I am at it. Just to get her sound was the most ive ever wanted , but to ride her again is just the best thing i could have ever dreamed

ahh i see

Shes doing not so bad, shes off the bute now for nearly a week and I cant see any lamness , very little swelling . Vet coming to scan her leg on wednesday , so will know the full extend of the injury . So fingers crossed
 
I know- its great isnt it. Ive got the summer shows all planned out for Willow - first one 4weeks today then spaced out after that. Not got much planned with Chantin as I cant get her home after going anywhere as she prefers not to go in the trailer - its nicer to gawp at everything else but concentrating on loading. But going to take her to a local show to practice loading at a busy ish show in the next few weeks.

Yes cant wait for the photos either. Going to have to get her tidied up - she looks like a yak with the long mane/tail and mountains of hair thats cryin gout to be shedded! Maybe tomorrow or wednesday will be a good starting point for that.

Chantins coming oon a treat. no more lumps. Think i may have stopped what was biting her as ive sectioned her off at the top of the field so she cant wander anywhere near the pond. Its not midges thats biting her but think it could be stable or black flies (dont know what they look like to see if i can see any near the pond) Wanted to get riding her but being as finger is still far too pasinful to ride, im walking her out in hand and joggin with her, so at least when I do get back on shell be kinda fit and so will I

Have you ever thought of getting someone like Richard Maxwell out to Chantin? Hannah would not load at all, no matter what anyone did. She had to be heavily sedated to get her anywhere so I decided enough was enough after 4 years and got him out. I have never looked back since! She loads perfectly every time now, no worries at all. He also did a friend's horse for the same reason as you... it wouldn't load when they were coming back from a show. It now loads every time without a hesitation.

Just a thought as she is such a stunning horse!
 
I booked Richard Maxwell to come out but he had his awful accident so ended up getting Lisa Bruin out. She has worked wonders and we now have her loading without any problems - we also have her coming out at any speed I want rather than Chantins one spped which was bolting!
We have been out for a few lessons but to a quiet yard, and shes been 100% perfect. Its when things start getting busier she starts to concentrate on other things other than what I want her to do.I took her for a lesson to my dressgae instructors yard. She loaded great going, had a brilliant lesson but the damn thing wouldnt load to come home. Luckily Lisa wasnt away so came over to help - got her in and went straight home.
What my plans are, are to take her to the local show. Box her there in the morning, walk her around to see the sights, then reload her and take her home, then do the same in the afternoon. Going to have Lisa on call in case we have any problems, however the show is in hacking distance from the yard so if she wont go in i can get her home without too much stress.

Thank god Ebi is a dream to load etc - I can throw her on the trailer at a show and she goes to sleep! Dont have any worries about leaving her whilst I wander round
 
cheers anima - im hoping we dont have anymore problems either. Holding off on schooling for a good long while, as whatever it was that caused the lameness, i dont want to retrigger
 
i would, as whilst ive been sorting my entries out for Willow, its not been a cheap do - think the most expensive is £120 for 2 classes and overnight stay
 
Jst a quick tip Richard Maxwell gave me that has worked with every horse I have ever had problems loading (I take a few friends places when they are stuck) is this: As soon as you get to the venue, unload the horse, and then reload it straight away! No matter how long it takes, give yourself plenty of time and make sure they reload before you go off and do the show. That way, they know they are going back in the trailer.

We did this with a yearling who loaded a bit shakily at home. It took a bit of encouragement getting her to load at the other end again as soon as she had come off, but then when we came to load her to come home, she more or less ran in.
 
tis brill! just going to have to get somekind of timetable done so I can ride both Chantin and Ebi every day through the summer. Thank god Willow is only 9months old or that would make my life hell on earth exercising 3 and working f/t
 
yes I will - specially with all this new regime of walking/jogging with horsie in hand whilst I can ride. Need to get fit and shift lots of those extra pounds. Wonder how much I can shift in 4weeks???
 
ooh well just dont do what I do and end up living on take aways because you are too tired to cook, has the opposite effect! (says she who had a Pizza Hut tonight and a Mc D brekkie this morning! Thank goodnes OH is back at work tomorrow, bad influence he is!)
