quote from the Racing Post ........."OWNERS are being asked to play a vital role in the sport's aim of growing the horse population by 1,000 between now and 2020.
The National Racehorse Owners Survey was launched on Tuesday by the BHA and Racehorse Owners Association." ........
I can understand the BHA should be encouraging more owners in to racing, but why do they want 1000 more horses chasing the same money pot ........ it seems a very strange idea ,,,,,,,, who decided 1000 was a goal, why not 500, or 1500.
What happens to the extra 1000 a year which are retired ?
Surely the BHA understand that economics tend to dictate who owns what and how many, that, plus the prize money, which is not great especially at the grass roots. Trying to recoup expenses from prize money is very uncertain, the racing experience is what most owners are interested in, so this is where the efforts should be concentrated.
