.....when we had a fall out hacking the other day! I've had the vet out who checked him thoroughly over and very fortunately no further damage! He just has two small open cuts, one of which has scabbed over, the other had scabbed and he's knocked it off, they are just above his coronet bone on his off hind leg. All swelling and heat had gone, so i took him off his bute, but this morning there is very slight swelling just above the fetlock, which had a bit of heat in it.

He has had a course of antibiotics, now finished, as this accident happened a week ago. He is not lame, just a little stiff in that joint (only without the bute), but it doesn't seem to be causing him any pain.

I am obviously keen to start walking him out again and wondered what the opinions would be as to when to start with this?? He is turned out in the day and in at night and the vet was fine with this. I also have a ground work lesson booked for this w'end, again i've not cancelled as yet as wanted to see how he was!!

What would you do???

Thanks guys

Mine had a cut to front of fetlock that was nasty, happened in the night and was crusty blood next am, cleaned and kept bandaged for half a day with msm and then left bandage off at night (dry weather spell so no mud around), has taken 3 weeks to heal fully, but no heat, not lame and was ridden on day three after happened. I had to be careful not to get sand in the cut from the menage so covered with dry dressing. Now just need hair to grow back - apart from cornucrescene, any other ideas?

Thanks pagancloughie Isn't Camrosa good for your boys hair re-growth!

I would definately need to cover his cut so sand wouldn't get in, did you just put a dry dressing under a bandage?

Just wonder about slight heat and puffiness, don't want to make it worse by riding..or guess this could walk it off??

Never thought of camrosa - does this make hair re-grow? I just put on dry lintex and vet wrap to keep muck out then took off cleaned and creamed and went back out. But he was not lame at all, and no heat and wound did not open up as started to scab over already. Be careful if on moveable joint if bandage on as may rub scab off? Best of luck, hope it heals quickly for you.
