..and I've decided on a trace clip and see how we get on with it. He used to get the full monty (bar legs and head) but it's too extreme for the amount of riding we do now - 4 to 6 hours a week.

Will report back later , possibly with a piccie if I can work out how to do them!:D

Haha, don't know if anyone is interested, but it went like this -

I asked for an Irish or trace clip. Lovely lady started to clip him, and told me that just to get the coat off, it was taking three stripes of the clippers and they kept over heating, and they were brand new clipper blades too. She said he is one of the hardest horses she has ever clipped, as his coat is unbelievable.

So we started with a trace clip, and it just looked AWFUL - like he was thatched or had been inflicted with a pudding bowl haircut :o - the proper term is apparently too much "up step " ?.

So that was it - we decided to get the LOT off (bar head and legs) which is the usual clip he has had over the years . And OMG, he looks fantastic - and I was so proud when the lady said he was in fantastic, shiny condition :D

It was dark by the time she had finished (after TWO HOURS) it was a bit late, but piccies will be on their way. The hair filled an empty Topspec bag, packed down very hard - would have easily filled 4/5 pillows.
