At our yard and the guys there use a different system of mucking out and bedding. Pick up droppings daily and remove the wet once a week. Fair enough :)

YO said to me that when they pop horse to bed, they catch the first wee in a bucket so as not to add to the wet and to save bedding. I thought an excellent idea.. however my boy would rather have a hernia holding it in for fear of weeing infront of someone than to actually try and get him to do it in a bucket! :o I'm happy to do a full muck out daily and YO is happy for me to do my own thing :)

Got me thinking though, does anyone else do similar things with regards to their pones beds?! :D

my pony wees on command. This means I can stand him outside his stable where he wees into a bucket (on the grassy patch when mum and dad aren't looking) and it saves me lots of work.

Very simple to teach them to do it too. whistle as they wee and them give them a treat- do this for a week or so, then whistle just before they wee and through their pee and then give them a treat, then gradually build it up so they recognise that weeing on command provides them with sweeties! took me 2 months! It's saved me a lot of time and bedding costs!
 
YUP i do this too. didn't have to teach mine as such; out of habit the first thing he does when you put him in the stable is have a wee, so i'd just stick a bucket underneath him :) does save alot on bedding definitely, especially as he's such a dirty boy in the stable anyway! every little helps :)
 
I've got my girls so they will wee when you whistle too. When I was going out to shows regularly, I would get ginger one out of the lorry and find the nearest bit of grass and get her to go for a wee before I got on. I would also get her to go for a wee before the journey home! Treat her like a child?? Me?? Never!! Lol

We did get some funny looks quite regularly doing this!

I also do this at home - I let the girls out at about 10pm to go for their evening wee, and then they usually don't wee in the stable :)

That's awsome! To be fair, if i taught the mare to wee on command via treat method, i'd never be able to put the bucket down!! Greedy moo she is :D

In the whole time I have had my Horse, I have only seen her wee twice! :eek: I take wet out of the stable every week though and theres always plenty of it. She must just wait till everyone goes home :o:p
 
I tried, each time he went for a see when he 1st came into his stable but each time he took a horrified look at me :o :o :o and changed his mind or stopped mid flow - damn good bladder control!!
