It's been a while since I've been in touch---this has been an odd and busy time! First, I have been very upset to spend more days than ever before in the pony jail. It hasn't been all bad, because I've not been alone, but then I was alone for a few days, and so now I'm very happy about finally being back with my friends in the big field! :D

The Carrot Lady has been acting very strange. For a while there, she was taking me to lots of places in the stall-on-wheels that apparently belongs to me! Last time, though, was quite a while ago. We were in a big grassy place where I wanted to run really really fast but she kept pulling on my mouth, and then I stepped on something very pointy and my foot hurt, and also there were some Needle People that kept wanting to touch me, but I didn't want to stand still, and the orange arab I go for trots in the woods with sometimes was there too. When we got back, she didn't sit on me for a few days, because my foot hurt, like I said.

And then we went for a ride in the field where my friends and I eat in the winter, except there were lots of people there and jumpies and bits of biting fence and other horses doing circles, and I got really really excited and tried to run really really fast again, except she pulled on my mouth again, so I got mad and stopped and put my head down so she fell off. Then I jumped around some more! Someone else got hold of my bridle though and took me to a stall, and though she came back later, she was acting all slow and making strange noises, and kept putting some soft blue flappy blanket thing on me, except it wasn't really a blanket because it didn't go on my bum, but had bits that went all the way down my legs! We went for a walk around the field with me wearing the funny blue flappy thing, but I kept stepping on the bits that were around my legs, and that was a bit frightening. The other horses were also wearing strange blankets. One of them looked like he had a giant fish on top of his back! And one of the carrot people was wearing a huge spiky thing on her head! It was all a little strange, and to be honest, sort of pointless. I wasn't even allowed to graze, even though we were in a field.

Again, she didn't sit on me for a few days, and hasn't been sitting on me very often . She says her shoulder hurts. So maybe there's a Carrot Lady Jail where she should go to rest that?

We did go for a few trots in the woods. On one of them, we met two things with two wheels that roared like very very angry barking things! They were a little startling, yes, but the Carrot Lady seemed so scared of them, I was wondering if I should just run for home! Today, we went to the square place with a roof on, I assume to make circles, but we just kept going in and out of the different square places: every time we went in one, a bunch of other ponies would arrive, and the Carrot Lady said we had to leave and go in another one. I don't see why we couldn't just have stayed; most of the ponies seemed really nice!

The really bizarre thing is though that the Carrot Lady seems really nervous when she's sitting on me. Why is she so scared? Does she think there's something in the woods that will get us? Should I be really worried now?

Does anybody have some advice for me?

Carrots,
the Spooky Pony

Oh, I just thought of two more strange things! Both are good though!

First is, that everyday, I have been getting a blue bucket with feed in!! I never get a bucket with feed in! Except now I do, every day!  :) :) :)

And the second thing is that today, I got a really really large red squishy berry, which was very sweet and tasty! First I dropped it, because it was so squishy, but the Carrot Lady picked it up for me, and then I ate it! :)

Carrots,
the Spooky Pony

Aw no, poor carrot lady! I think you should show her how brave you are and look after her with her poorly shoulder, then you will keep getting the big squishy berries :D Then you can share them with us :D

I would love to see photos of the weird flappy things and pointy hats, they sound very strange and confusing.

I don't get any feed, mum says im a fat bloater (not very nice to call a handsome chap like me) so can i sneak a mouthful of yours? I think i might starve to death otherwise

Oscy

Spooky

I have no idea what is wrong with your carrot lady - they are very odd sometimes *sigh* I too have been in pony jail - the only good thing about that was that I got fed twice a day and got hay:D - even though that was wet - humpf!:( Still I am now out in the field again but on the tiniest patch of dusty soil and grass. :(

I don't think I have had the red squishy things but they sound yummy:p - the fat juicy black things in the hedge are starting to look yummy...............:p:D

would love a carrot but not allowed any..............:(

The coblet x

Dear Oscy,

Here's a picture of me in the blue flappy blanket thing:

mrspook3.jpg

I don't think we can share the same bucket: it's a bit small. But if you come to visit me, the Carrot Lady might get you your own feed in the red bucket!

Dear Coblet,

our fat black juicy things in the hedge are green and red at the moment, so no eating yet. But the ones that are supposed to be red are ready, and the pointy-leafed plants that have the purple flowers on top are very good eating right now! :) I get to have some most days when we come back from our trot in the woods. But only on the way back, which is very annoying! I've just about given up trying to grab them on the way out.

Hiay Spooky Pony,
I'm new, My carrot girl las stopped taking me for walks :(, she keeps trying to wrap a pink thing round my poorly foot but it hurts so I keep pulling it away. All my feet feel sore as well , the loud man who touches my feet has made them hurt, so I am having to stay in pony jail as well

Also I think my orange arab is taking my carrot girl, he keeps letting her put him in pony jail and sit on him  he is even letting the foot man touch his feet.

Dear bettyboo222,

I'm sorry your feet are hurting! Is your Hoof Man one of the ones that makes horrible noises and smells? I don't like those much; they're scary! I suggest you get a Hoof Lady like mine; she has a thing on the blanket-with-front-legs she wears that you can pull on and it goes twannggg. That's really good fun!

Dear Dizzy,

It really is frightening, isn't it, if the person sitting on you falls off at a jumpies? I'm not very sure about jumpies; they seem to cause many frightening incidents! Best left alone, I often think.

Hello Spooky Pony, I don't believe we've met?
I too think these jumpy things are quite a nuisance, so I let my carrot lady think I'm going to jump, then I run away dead fast. I think this is a good plan, but she doesn't give me as many carrots when I do it? I think those humans are too silly for their own good, and we should take a stand!

Lots of love, Giant Pony

Dear Giant Pony,

that's exactly what I do sometimes! Only then I get smacked on the bum, if the Carrot Lady is still sitting on me. I haven't really found a correlation bewteen less carrots and her falling off. Maybe I should consider this?

Hi Spooky

I think your carrot lady definitely sounds like she should be in jail to let her shoulder rest. Maybe when you stopped and she fell off she landed on a sharp pointy thing like the one you stood on? Or maybe its because she tried to hold onto the bit-strings when she fell off, human shoulders aren't meant to be yanked on, they break quite easily! Did she have it all folded up in a handkerchief/falg thing for a while?

I get more carrots when we do big jumpies and do them properly. I too get a smack if I try to run away, but that doesn't happen much now since I decided that jumpies was fun!

I've had a strange few weeks too... firstly mum and Peter went away for a week and Tom and I were left with a man who doesn't know much about ponies, but my friend Bertie's mum and grandma came and took us out for a stroll. Bertie's friends are mostly racehorses so I tried to show his mum how fast I could go in the hope that she would take me racing, but she just laughed at me:eek: how rude... Then when mum can Peter came back, aunty Ro and her OH were there too (he must be a lion or something cos his name is Roary) and aunty Ro let him ride me, but made me promise to be really nice to him. :( boring!
Then mum promised to take me to a jumpies place, but we just did dressage!! I haven't been anywhere in weeks, its soooo boring. and there's no grass, and they keep making me wear a viking outfit. I don't mind the rug, it keeps me cool, but the stupid hat annoys me and mum gets really cross when I take it off. :(

we get a little bit of dinner at this time of year, but its mostly dried stalky bits and a little of the brown round things. we also get bits of cabbage and brocolcolocoli stalks when grandma does the gardening!

I think your carrot lady has lost a bit of confidence, you should try co-operating with her for a little while and see if you get more carrots!

giant feed buckets!

Ron

Dear Ron,

It sounds like your time really has been very strange! Nobody but the Carrot Lady has sat on me in a long time. The Scary Chicken Flap Man sat on me a while ago, and he made me walk sideways lots and really annoyed me, but he hasn't sat on me since! I'm glad about that; he can be very scary, although he didn't do his chicken flap thing while he was sitting on me.

I bet you would make a really good racehorse. I think I would make a good racehorse, too; I can run really really fast! Shall we have a race sometime?

I'm not sure about the viking outfit. Is it like the thing the black mare that almost knocks the fence over when she scratches her bum on it really hard wears? The Carrot Lady calles her a "Ku Klux Pony" though, not a "Viking Pony".

Carrots and a large red squishy berry,
the Spooky Pony

i think that might be the same thing, its like a normal rug but instead of being warm and cosy, its a silvery brown colur and goes under my belly and keeps me cool.

we should definitely arrange to have a race one day, I'm pretty certain I'll win though as I'm very fast, so I hope you don't mind coming second?! ;)

scary chicken flap man... don't like the sound of him, is he like the stroppy nodding lady that mum and I had lessons with when I first moved here? She made me do sideways things, and got cross with me when I didn't understand what she was asking and I stopped dead then shot straight up in the air off all four feet - I don't know what she wanted me to do, but she was pulling on my mouth so I couldn't go forwards, and she had her legs on so hard I couldn't go backwards or sideways, so I went up, the only place left! and mum wonders why I don't like dressage!

*shudders* dressage.... grrr.

i'd love to know what the squishy berry is? we have wild raspberries and blackberries in our hedges, but they're not ripe yet. Mum likes to point them out to me when we're out riding so that we can both have some.

Carrots,

Ron

Dear Ron,

you're on! I've been doing lots of really long fast trots this summer, so I reckon I'm pretty fit at the moment, so I wouldn't be counting your red flappy ribbony things yet! Besides, everybody says I can really shift! I think if I tried, I could probably get to your place in a week or two, but first I would have to jump out of my field, and then I'd probably have to rest when I got there...so maybe you could come up here? Or I could get the Carrot Lady to take me in the stall-on-wheels?

Your stroppy noddy lady does sound a bit like the Scary Chicken Flap Man. Does she flap like a chicken, too?

The large squishy berry is not the same as the ones that are on the tasty prickly bushes in the woods. It's much much larger than that; about the size of my eye! Well, it was, before I ate it.

you're up north are you Spooky? you could stop at my penpal Sophie's s stable on your way down, it's in kilbride. She's blonde and pretty, Hovis would like her! then mum has a friend at new castle (i thought castles were all old, but apparently not!) who has 2 driving ponies... then we're about an hour from there! You're welcome anytime, mum won't mind a bit, and we've got really good grass and yummy haylage too!

I shall have to get mum to give me one of those berries, they sound yummy!

I don't think the stroppy nodding lady flaps, but maybe I just didn't do the right/wrong things to make it happen?

Ron

Dear Ron,

I'll have to see if I can talk her into it! Thanks for the invite, though!

I dodn't do anything to make the flapping happen! He just jumped around and flapped and squawked! And when I spooked (as any sane pony would do; apparently though I was the only sane pony there!) he did it again, except this time he came right at me! So I ran sideways across the square place with a roof on. I was making for the door, but the Carrot Lady stopped me.

Here is a picture of the type of berry I mean, for reference when you ask for one:

Dear Spooky

Personally I think you need to take your carrot lady and sort her out.

Firstly its always best to keep them on your back. At least then you know where they are and you can stay in charge of the situation. Your human could also break quite badly when coming into contact with the floor. Last time I did it she had to use sticks to feed me and poo pick and she didn't ride for months! Several years on and she still hobbles and I have to wait patiently for her to catch up so really its no fun breaking your human.

Secondly I think you should have a little pep talk with your human and tell her that really its your job to make life exciting for her. Let her know that that upturned leaf you are quaking in your boots about is really just a demonstration of your highly developed acting techniques. Why woudl you look at a combine or lorry when a buttercup is far more common and thus more interesting to spook at.

Thirdly I am sad to say that you clearly have not been keeping her on her toes. I find the best way to do this is learn how to open doors, start easy with your stable then move onto your gate. If all else fails jump the gate (practicing those jumpy things is very good for getting yuor distanceing and stride right for this. As she drives up to the yard so you can greet her in a way that will encourage more carrots in your bucket. Once you have perfected this wait until she has been caught short and is having a sneeky pee on your nice clean bed. While she has her johds round her ankles sneak out and let all your mates out on the way. Then party until she is gasping for breath from trying to catch you and go back to bed.

Fouth - Did you know that the really good stuff is in what they call a "car". These doors can be opened by shoving your muzzle under the handle and waggling it up. Once you have done this feel free to get as much of you in the car and rumage. You will often find fresh bags of feed, extra carrots and apples and all manner of tasty things if she has popped in to see you on the way back from sainsburys. The boot which is the bit at the back of the car is also ripe for choice pickings!

Fifth - While out on hacks try to choose snacks from the best shrubbery. A very pretty rose bush from someones front garden can taste delicious when freshly pulled on your way past and all the shouting and hollering will give you the perfect excuse to do a bunk with it. I believe humans call this "scrumping".

With regard to flappy things. Humans are such trying creatures and they will sometimes do this to make you "bomb proof". The more you fuss the more flappy things they will find so I recomend rolling your eyes and leaving them to their silly prancing around.

The hot smelly man that does your feet is known as a "farrier". You can get him to get a move on by fiddling with the buckle on his chaps until they fall off. Don't worry if you fancy a snooze and he is holding your hoof just lean on him to make yourself comfortable and go to sleep anyway. If he is rude enough to wake you up waggle your feet subtly around so he can't do what he is doing and your human will then provide an excellent pillow on which you can rest your weary head while she "holds you" for him.

You can have lots of fun with your human while she is on shoulder rest just try not to touch said shoulder until its better, nudging hard on the other side will also slow down her recovery so you will have to be a bit gentle until she is fixed.

Yours Paddy

Dear spooky pony,

Yes there IS pony eating monsters out there, i saw one! Well at least i think i did, it was very big and blue and goes pop-pop-pop. My carrot lady calls it a Trac-or and she said its harmless .. Pah

My carrot lady doesnt sit on me, but i like to keep her on her toes by catching her un-awares and pulling her over - Its fun :D

Actually i havent had any carrots in a while, only boring pony nuts in a pink (bet your jelous!) feed bucket :)

So maybe she should be called the pony nut lady instead?

Love Mysti :)

Spooky Pony,

You wouldn't catch me eating one of those red berry things!! I wont even eat them orange sticks or the green round things, you never know what they may do to you  but I do like them little white round things :) My "mum" (though I like to call her Marge or Margey) tried to hide the orange sticks in my dinner one time, but I was clever and ate around them ;) She wasn't too happy about that

Mysti - I'm used to those Trac-ors. There was one parked at the top of the sand strip that I got to run up and down really fast with the other horses at my old house before my Margey got me where they said I was going to be a "race horse" but I don't know what one of them is, or if thats what I am now?? Anywho back to the Trac-or. I used to run up the sand strip and then do a slower run halfway back down. We did that 3 times normally and on the second time we had to head straight towards the Trac-or  But none of the others were scared, so I was brave too :) Although I haven't seen one in a while, so I might have to be wary if I come across another one.

Dear Spookypony and everyone else,
My carrot girl has been very strange today. First the feet person came and she shouted at him and pointed at my feet. Then she dissapered , so I thought it would be a good idea to open mine and orange arabs doors and go for a run. Carrot girl did not like this. She told me off and put me back in pony jail :( I don't think she noticed orange arab though :D until he pushed her over.

Strange days

Carrots are on me

The old pony

Dear Paddy,

Very nice to meet you!

It's very worrying, what you've told me about how fragile my Carrot Lady is! I don't want her to be hurt; I don't really mind her that much! I kicked her a while ago, and she was moaning about that too, and then she chased me in circles for a while...maybe that wasn't a good thing to do either?

Today, there were some things with two wheels, that I don't like very much, but I stayed very calm and brave. So that was the right thing to do?

I know how to undo my lead rope, and how to get into pockets, but I have to say that I find doors a bit harder. I don't get put in stalls much, so I don't really have a chance to practice!

Thanks for the advice about the "car". I know there's carrots in there sometimes, so I try to look, but the doors are really hard to open! Is there a trick?

If I try to eat while on a trot in the woods, the Carrot Lady gets really mad, so I don't get to do that much. Except the plants with the purple flowers that I mentioned earlier; I get to eat those on the way home!

Thankfully, I don't have to have anything to do with the hot smelly Hoof Man. My Hoof Lady is much quieter!

Dear Mysti,

I think your Pony Nut Lady may be right about the blue thing! We meet one of those sometimes, and it's ok! The smaller yellow ones, though, I'm not so sure about. Best be safe, and run past really quickly!

Dear Ethel,

you don't like carrots or the big red squishy berries?! Send them my way! Being a race horse sounds really really exciting; perhaps you'd like to come along when Ron and me have our race?

Dear Old Pony,

Thanks so much for the carrots!
