The cat savaged the dog last night

Got a frantic phone call from my mom at 4.30pm yesterday while i was at work, telling me to get home and take the dog the vets (dad couldnt take him as he's not allowed to drive at the moment) as he'd had an accident. I race home (thankfully only live around the corner) to discover he has been annihilated by one of the semi ferral yard cats we have. The other woman who shares with me didnt close the hay barn door behind her and he got in. She'd ripped him to shreds, his ears, mouth, nose, face and eyes. She'd scratched everything. He was covered in blood, with it puring from his mouth, so i whishked him off to the vets where he was checked out and hopefully no lasting damage. He was given an anti-b and anti-inflam jab to help things along, drops for his eyes and a course of anti-b's. Problem is now that he is very sore and feeling very sorry for himself and is just lying in front of the fire. Does anyone know if i can give arnica to the dog to help him feel better or is there anything else i can give him? I just feel really bad for him as he's such a live wire bouncing all over the place. I'm also concerened about the cat as she hasnt come back yet...

Blimey, sounds like one feisty cat. I have given arnica to mine, certainly can't do any harm to make him a bit comfier. Hope he is feeling better soon, and the cat returns.

Eak...he was lucky, have seen a cat take a dogs eye in battle, he prob came face to face with it and it panicked like hell and went into defence, they literally latch onto the area, claws and teeth are a deadly combination....poor sore doggy

Im sure the cat will return.

Must be something in the water, one of ours got cornered by B the other day and she gave him a right bashing. Hope he is better soon x

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Its just such a shame as he's is a bundle of joy, but he couldnt even be bothered to get out of bed this morning. Normally he greets you at the door grabbing hold of your jumper then trying to pull you all over the yard. He's so down in the dumps. Any idea how much arnica i can give him??

are you using arnica tablets or cream? also what size of dog etc?? often it will say on the packet in terms of size per weight........... if not id say treat as a child dose personally, but people who have used it before may have a different approach!

I use tablets andgive the child dose (on GSDs). I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to use cream on open wounds.

He's a staffie weighing in at 22.7kgs. The arnical i have at home is tablet form, in a little brown jar, didnt come with any doseage giudes i'm afraid. So wouldnt know what to give him...

Give your vet a phone just to double check, I am sure they will tell you.

30c if i can remember right and i'm also waiting for the vet to get back to me. I did go home at lunch time and he seemed very pleased to see me (which is an improvement) but he's not happy with you touching his head.

I would give him one every four hours for a couple of days - it will help the bruising no end. Hide it in a tiny marmite sandwich for him!

Cool thanks for that, no worries about getting him to take them he just swallows everything without tasting it! And GH he had the cat last time (though she came off better than he did this time) so i think it was payback. Strange though as she is the tamer of the two...
