....so I'm on a few 'groups' on FB, and they do make me howl sometimes, but get this one -

'...looking for free or loan view to buy, 15hh+, any breed, just not old'.....

Now, I know I've just been gifted a smashing pony, and yes, I'm sure there are several who might look to do the same, but what gets me is the bit at the end - '...just not old'...

Be grateful for what you get, I say!

....or am I just being pedantic?

:D

Depends what they mean by old, I guess! I would be happy with almost any age, but I wouldn't want something that would be likely to croak in a month or two.
I've heard of 20+ year olds being just as lively as 5yr olds and 14yr olds that act like OAPs!

ETA: Yes, I also have to laugh at some of the ads on horsey groups on FB. The pure cheek and stupidity of some people amazes me!

Well, I suppose if you don' ask, you don't get :D but then I have to say I have a mare looking for a home or rider and the people that advertise like that are rarely suitable

I hope nobody gives this person a horse! She clearly sounds like she isn't going to care about it once it gets to it's later years in life.....I agree Dragonslayer - be grateful for what you get.

I think it's just ridiculous! I took on a little mare free to good home as I needed a companion for my mare ASAP. Accepted she wasn't good to handle, had health problems and I've probably spent enough in vets bills to buy a horse now :p but I knew and accepted this when I took her on. I would never expect a fantastic horse to be offered to me free to good home, it was hard enough to find a mad, unrideable and slightly crazy welsh a :p (I do love my pony she's just special )

whats wrong with tht?!

Im actually looking for something that will take me county level showing, maybe more, jumps well and does a nice test, hacks out first or last, 100% in every way. 16h ish, definitely no ugly ones, about 7 yrs old. Must have all tack and rugs and a new set of shoes, and has to be free to good home, or very cheap. I will give it a forever home :D

No? No takers? :p

Only kidding, they make my  too. I saw one saying something like 'Pony wanted, free, I promised my daughter she could have a pony for her birthday but I havent got any money'. Oh, and Wanted, horsebox or trailer, free please...

People must sometimes get what theyre asking for or there wouldnt be so many ads asking!

I quite agree I love the ones along the lines of Loan horse wanted 4-10 yrs must jump hack do dressage be an all round saint must be 17h etc etc etc.

It cracks me up that they can be so demanding you can always tell by the tone of the wants they are not really thinking of the horse in terms of a living thing that needs care and love.

The best one I saw recently was posted local and we are up in the borders was a person wanting to loan a horse just for the duration of the common ridings.

I mean who the hell is going to get their horse fit care for it keep it shod etc then give it to someone to hammer it round the common ridings all summer to then have it returned, I guess it would be cheaper than buying their own horse or hiring as they charge £150 each rideout for a horse but really.

Then again I have to say some of the most dodgy things to do with horses I have seen on fb some of the pics of their of horses for sale seemingly living in squalor is quite amazing.
That along with some of the dodgy horse breaking vids it does not make good viewing.

*pssst...incidently, if anyone does have ^^^ they want to give me, let me know. It would be great if you could also deliver it. Thankies ;)*

One of the ones that made me laugh out loud a couple of years ago was on Trade it. Now, I am paraphrasing, but it basically went, "My daughter is a wonderful rider and we promised her a pony but we cannot afford to buy one. We are desperately looking for a loan of a pony that will take her to highest levels at eventing, with all its tack and rugs. Please help or you will be breaking a little girls heart." Talk about a guilt trip! And frankly, if you are so stupid you promise your child something you cannot afford to give them, you shouldn't be responsible for some one else's pony and tack!

the best ones are i only have £350 to spend... it must be bomb proof, come with all tack and rugs as i cant afford to buy some...
I have to wonder how they will afford to keep the poor thing... :(

We have a pony advertised for sale atm and I have had about five people ring asking if we would like to loan him instead. One even said she didn't really want to buy his height because her child would probably outgrow him in a couple of years and she would be stuck having to sell him!

I got a freebie last year, she'll be 25 this year and she is fabulous! Still up for a jolly round the village, bombproof forward going hacks alone in company ride and lead snaffle mouth etc etc. My friend has one similar, I love these old ponies that have been there done that and got the turnout rug, they are absolute saints but still with character :)
