Tacked Senza up to lunge and then went into tack room to get her boots. Next thing i know i hear all this commotion so run outside to see my horse snap her lead rope and start broncing (sp) round the yard. She was like a thing possessed!!!!! She looked like a rodeo horse that you see on TV

Everyone was running about grabbing their dogs and kids out of the way coz no-one could get near her. She eventually galloped flat out into a stable door and stood there snorting. I got hold of her and tried to calm her down but she went off on one again and as she reared up she came down and cracked me straight over the head with her jaw. OUCH!!!! I could of cried!! Anyway i managed to keep hold of her and she settled.

Took her down to the sand school and i think we spent the whole half hour doing hand stands and i am suprised she didn't got over as she was going so high.

Turned her out in the front paddock afterwards and she was happy as larry after that as if nothing had happened

One of the girls said it was coz one of the kids trotted passed her but that wouldn't usually bother her. Just glad i decided to lunge and not ride

have owned 2 chesnut mares both have bit me. the first one was a 13.2 pony little bites all over me. the second was a 15.3 horse. day one when it arrived it was lovely in stable grooming it. came out shut door and bent down to get grooming box from outside door. she came over the door like JAWS and bit me on the back. i went in a spare stable and cried i have never had pain like it. the bruise was about 10inches circular. needless to say never would i have a chestnut mare again

I've had two chestnut mares and they were both easy - it's the bloomin' bay mares I have more problems with!

Hope last night's occurence was a one-off!

She is usually such a happy horse and i never have any problems with her, you cant even tell when she is in season and i dont think i have ever seen her with her ears back so it was totally out of character for her just to go off on one like that.

She can be a bit hypo and upset if the other horses leave her but i think that is cause she is still young and a bit insecure but they were all in and next to her.

It was like a bomb went off as she was falling asleep when i went into the tack room!!

That could be a possibility as it was so out of the blue!!

Coz i wasn't there i dont know what exactly set her off

Ha ha funny you should say that the only horse i ever seem to have problems with is my friends bay mare!!!

ssshh! dont give the chestnut mare scaremongerers any more ammunition!

if it sounds out of character then another explanation such as a sting seems more probable. sounds like she put on quite the show though, hope you're never on board for that!

I have one of each (bay and Chestnut) and they are both sweethearts....

Hope that last night was a one off for you, but the sting theory sounds about right.....

She usually is a sweetheart and you could tell something had definatly upset her as she was shaking and snorting.

As for the bucking on the lunge, sometimes she does do that in protest to the pessoa being round her bum but not half as much as she did last night. Think she was still wound up bless her.

I think my bay mare chatted to your chestnut mare, as on the w/end, she too went loopy in the field (with me on her)....

somehting spooked the living daylights out of her in the jumping paddock and she wouldn't go near the woods for love nor money - i even got off to walk her there, but she was so frightened she reared up and I almost lost her! got back on, and had to school her miles from the woody area - eventually we got a bit closer when we started jumping as that is fun!

hope you are ok after hte knock!
