Lots written about and comments on the "current horse market"--as I am returned to the horse world in the UK after riding as a kid and adult in the US-- I am just curious what the "current horse market" is and how it compares perhaps to how things used to be-- and how long it has been like it is.

I have to say I was very surprised at the relatively inexpensive purchase price for horses here. Sure the sky is the limit in both the US and the UK on what you *could* spend-- but so many nice ( sounding) horses here for sale at prices that seem very low compared to the US market.

Just interested in what has shaped today's market-- and what things were like once upon a time!

That is the current market :p Yes, you could still spend £50k on a horse if you wanted, but the type of horse that the average owner buys (nice allrounder, not going to make it to the Olympics) has dropped in price over the last few years. I'd say this is mainly because of the recession.

Plus there are loads more low value horses around these days thanks to the attitude of "can breed, will breed" :(
