LOL, that was actually the first thing that popped in to mind when someone from my RC told me this story - this woman I know had taken in a Staffie to potentially rehome. The reason it was being rehomed? Because the child in the house, who has autism, kept biting the poor dog!

Funny sort of, sorry, but what would have been the reaction if the dog had bitten that child after sticking a pen in its ear ? wouldn't be so funny then and it'd be the dogs fault

Gorgeous bully, fwiw I was left alone (or then again, alone enough - Mum would be cooking etc) with my dog and we usually play fought or did something else but there was definitely enough time for me to colour in the dog had I so wished.
But NG is right, parents ONLY have themselves to blame if it goes tits up.

Yes sorry to put a downer on the thread its just how I feel when dogs get blamed its them that suffer usually with their life.

Bull terriers,staffies etc are amazingly tolerant with children,far safer than most dogs,nothing seems to phase them when it comes to the "other children" in a household.

Presumably the owner/parent trusted the dog to be with the child under supervision and from their dogs body language felt it wasn't bothered. Although the title of the thread is "leaving a dog" as the photo was taken it would seem someone was there.

Although if i left them alone it's more likely the dog would give her a boot onto the kitchen side so she can get to the biscuit tin!!

I have watched my children dress up my GSDs, I know my dogs and could tell if they weren't happy with what was going on. If that bully had been unhappy with the childs actions I suggest she would have just got up and walked away.

I hav to agr with this. I don't agree with leaving kids alone with dogs and dont leave my DD with my 2. ut if my dogs dont want me - or indeed anyone else - to do what were doing to them. Be it stroking, playing or looking for an injury you know about it. They dont just lay there they get up and move!!

I had GSD's as a child, they put up with a lot of hairdressing and,bless their cottons, would be the stand in pony for my games a lot LOL!
Cousin once got hold of my Aunts danes and painted all their nails with glittery nail polish
We always had a crate for ours in the house and a kennel in the garden, those were places ONLY for our family dogs to go.
If the dogs got fed up with us they would take themselves off to their bed, and if we dared to follow or poke them there god help us!
I doubt felt tip pen would harm the dog (well, maybe the ego
) as they need to be non toxic in case of children putting them in their mouths,the dog is clearly relaxed so what's the harm?IMO, it is lovely to see a picture of a child enjoying a positive relationship with their family dog for once!
