Today, we decided to build on what we started yesterday. Today was day two in the snaffle, also know as Dee day (<---see what i did there :D, Dee instead of D? You know, like Dee for Delicia? nevermind, my humour is lost on you....anyway i digress.) I knew today would be the day that i would tell whether dee was rideable in the snaffle or would tank off with me.

But first things first. I had arranged to meet up with [deleted user] and meet her gorgeous horse, Mickey Blue Eyes, a real in the flesh heavy weight cob with a gorgeous face and a very kind eye. All going well i was going to have a sit on him. This would have been the first time i had ridden another horse apart from delicia since my accident some 5 years ago. Alas, the whether took a turn for the worse today and with the heavy rain beating down upon us, i decided against riding a new horse to me for the first time as my leg was already aching and hurting in the cold, damp air. Nevertheless a small trek over the wilds of kent (read as two fields :D ) i got to have a cuddle and a kiss with him. Nahhh he is so lovely. Posessing one white ear, one black ear and a black mark in the shape of a butterfly on his head i just fell in love with him. (I know what you are thinking, but he is a cob.) But titter ye not, this isnt just any old cob.

Oh no.

He is a dressage cob! A warmblood stuck in a cobs body. If totilas was in cob form, this would be him. However i found it a very sad state of affairs that this poor coloured cob was being inflicted the pain of a pink turnout rug. :( :( :( Nevertheless, he was clearly man enough to deal with the humiliation and worse it well. :D

A quick stop off for a breakie (nom nom) and we headed to my yard to meet the dee monster. "God she is massives isnt she!" summed up [deleted user]'s first words when she met dee. I grinned. I tell people she is a big 17hh horse, but i think because i have very long legs and make her look smaller that i am lying. :D. The next comment was about her big ears. Yes yes, i get it, she has big ears  :D apparently a sign of a forgiving horse, i love her ears but [deleted user] mimiced what i thought. "I hope she doesnt grow into them" :O.

Dee was very cuddly and loved the attention i clearly starve her off , i tacked her up and lead her to the arena. There was a hunter trails training clinic going on in one arena which was very exciting, lots of whizzing ponies and happy riders. I took dee into the other indoor arena and started to warm her up. She was on a little bit of a mission and marched around the arena but soon started to settle. She wasnt as easy to ride today, as there was a lot going on she was looking at everything. I got her to flex and start to reach down into the contact. I was working on her accepting my leg aids. At the beginng she was having none of it. Constantly running away from my aids, but i kept my leg on her and asked her to soften and accept it and bless her she did. I then picked her up a little and put a little more pressure on her, asking her to work more up but still into the contact and trying to keep her neck longer, working as though i wanted her neck to grow out more from the shoulders and up into the contact.

What can i say, she was fab. A little strong at times but tbh i was over the moon with her. We did a tiny bit of lateral work, me moving my legs about on her side to get her more comfortable with my aids. I realised that i had been so worried about her buggering off with me i hadnt been using my aids on her and subsequaintly when i put my leg on her she would rush off. Spirialing circle work really helped. We still have a long way to go but she was fab.

I showed off her medium trot just once and even had a canter!!! :D I did a 20meter circle in canter before bringing her back to trot and letting her stretch. I ended the session by working with her in the walk. Getting her to soften and release through her back and work rounder whilst not tryin got rush off. I had her riding very random shapes in the school but these served a purpose. They stopped dee getting complacent and kept her mind focused on my aids. I then did some walk/halt/walk transitions riding her complately from my seat and voice and not my hands so that I learn to trust her and let go. I do not want to hang onto her mouth. I then made her halt and remain secure in the halt until she started to lick and chew. Then i knew she was inputting what i was teaching her, i dismounted and gave her a pat.

She broke one trot into the canter but thats because she lost confidence. But tbh she was a lovely girl today and really did enjoy her work. She really isnt an easy mare and it is very hard for me to let go, especially when i do know what she is capable off. But i am defiently stronger in the saddle and more confident.

[deleted user] had a lovely cuddle with dee whilst i untacked and groomed her before eventually rugging her back up. They even shared a cup of tea! Two sugars, dee's favourite :D.

I did offer [deleted user] a ride on delicia, but she declined. Shame really because it would have been nice to see dee with another good rider on her but i understand why she declined. Maybe once she is established in her snaffle.

I had a lovely day (despite the rain) and look forward to hacking and riding with [deleted user] in the future. I am so proud of my mare, she gives me goosebumps where she has so much talent and we are so close to unlocking that door and beings amazing.

Heres a picture of yesterday, sorry no pics today.

Black Horse logging out.

That sums up everything very nicely!
Mickey is man enough to wear a pink rug (NOT cerise - they lied!) but when I went to get him in he had decided to man it up a bit (no doubt following our laughter earlier) by undoing te neck attachment, spinning it round and wearing it Mexican bandana stylee, no doubt in his gang colours. But in fact it just looked like a giant bib. I didn't tell him that though, cos I was laughing to hard to be coherent!
Had a lovely time meeting Dee. The pics don't do her justice. She is huger than she looks, and yes her lovely ears are very, ahem, not donkey like at all ;)
You ride her beautifully, she's clearly not an easy ride, but you are quiet and soft, and I think once she learns to relax she will be unstoppable. Just keep doing what you are doing - its paying dividends already. She is stunning, has even more of the wow factor in real life, and is lucky to have you as her mum.
Maybe one day I will be brave enough to get on.
Can't wait to see you on mick :)
Yes he is a dessage cob don't you know.....until we go jumping, when he pretends he's Milton....until we play polocrosse when he pretends he's an Aussie....until we go hacking when he pretends he's a donkey!
:)

That rug is definetly pink, whatever they describe it as, its pink!!! I think maybe mickey wants to be in a gang with dee and they can take the dressage world by storm? Maybe he through his neckcover was blingy and wanted to wear it around his neck like a necklace? :D bless him and his lil feathers :D.

Dee says thank you for the cup of tea but she would like more sugar next time ;). TBH you came to see dee without bearing a single polo  im supprised she looked at you.... :D

I have to ride her quiet otherwise i would worry her. I am not going to hold her, she is going to have to find her own balance without me holding her. :)

You are more then welcome to have a sit on her :) maybe next time? :) xxx

Eesh maybe :)
I don't tend to carry polos....cob in a gang + polos = mugging!

Maybe he feels the need to be in a gang as he doesnt feel like he belongs :S

Get him some scrap metal and a rundown old caravan and stick it in the field. Tether him next to it and watch him be at home. ;)

Glad you enjoyed reading :D I was trying to make it funny (not sure if i did or not??)

Can i say that i am so pleased with how dee is adapting i could cry?

And that is not because i am hormonal"

had to buy her some matchy matchy as a well done of course

What colour?

You're so lucky as she's black - any colour will suit her. I find it quite hard with my chestnut and just got her a black set and a white set. ;)

it was funny, well it made me smile;) and we must all be hormonal because the next line made me say ' awww bless that is so sweet' and gave me a bit of a fluffy warm feeling:eek::D
it is very smile inducing to hear you enthusing about her and it really comes out that you are enjoying her rather than feeling that riding her is a constant battle:cool:

Love reading your Dee posts, she's such a beautiful horse and the dressage pictures of you & her are somewhat of an inspiration for me & bailey as we're starting out at Dressage :) well done xxx
