Ho hum. Some of you may have read the post about the Dizzy one having a major tantrum the other day, well, it was most definately out of character for her - I know one could say she is a young, dumb-blood, chestnut mare and ignore it, but it was too far out of order.

So, already had the teeth booked for yesterday, and luckily thanks to YO managed to get the best back man around over on Wednesday.

Back:
This back man was brill

. We started at her feet and worked upwards. We started at her nose and worked backwards. Then at her tail and worked forwards. He looked in her mouth. He wanted to know her entire feed regime and commented. He inspected her feet, discussed her shoeing and the conformation (good!).: he suggested different shoes for the hinds to help support/strengthen her hocks (will discuss with farrier).

He listened while I woffled about how she's been (he figured out a lot of what she was doing, even little bits that I hadn't told anyone).

So, in conclusion: she's weak all over, big framed, slow growing, totally lacking condition and top-line(!), her hocks are the weakest part of her if one is talking strict conformation and being totally strict she's also half a rib too long in the body. There was a lot of technical talk, which was explained at the time, but I've forgotten most of it! In general, she isn't drastic
grin.gif
. She's a nice mare and she's now an even nice mare
grin.gif
.

He said he thought her teeth would need power tools
frown.gif
. I thought 'Pah', they were done last August-ish. As said, the dentist came yesterday....

Teeth:
The Dizzy one needs power tool work
frown.gif
. All her teeth are very sharp, there's a wolf tooth in just the wrong place, four teeth are slanting in towards her tongue (half a tooth displacement).
frown.gif
This is one of the best equine dentists in the country (and she is absolutely lovely with it
smile.gif
). Says that Dizzy's teeth are saying they have not been done, and certainly not last August
frown.gif

The teeth issue will account for a lot of Dizzy's hissy fits (mini rears, backwards, head shaking, nose rubbing)
frown.gif
. It wasn't her being a moody mare. Given the state of them, she'd have had every right to tell me to f' off and fly

So, now she's in the field 'till next Friday when the dentist is back. I'm not putting any pressure on her in any way, she can just eat and eat and eat and chill out.

Once her teeth are done and she's had another couple of days off, I have a revised fittening programme: ride twice a week (walking for six weeks), Pessoa three times a week. Two days a week off so's I can be Wife and Mother. Back man back out in six to eight weeks to check on her progress, and I can call him any time to ask questions/discuss

.

So, just the saddler to do next...

Hot choccies with all the trimmings for those who have got this far, and I think I have some Boasters cookies around here somewhere

Wow, what a change in teeth in less than a year. Well done for not just thinking shes was being a mare and getting everything looked at. What a great owner you are!

TT - wow, you make me blush hun
cool.gif
. Dentist says the teeth can't have changed that much; that the pointing-in teeth would have been doing their thing since about three and a half... They'll always need special attention. Ho hum. Have discussed with previous owner, and I think she's taking it up with the dentist she used (teeth were last 'done' last September, so only seven-ish months)

On the upside C, all the basics are nearly all dealt with and once they are done then you can hopefully start to enjoy her a bit more without stressing about weight / shoes too much.

Take pics for us every week so we can see how she's getting on please

I think she's looking better already, but I've thought that for the last couple of weeks and it doesn't translate onto the photos

. I'm just really glad the back man didn't see her a few weeks ago

Glad she's looking better

You seems to be covering all possibilities for her and doing our utmost to help her. She is a lovely, and lucky horse to have you as her owner

We have one who's teeth need done every six months, and power tools are used. She puts up with so much and has such an angelic temperament that I always make sure I don't forget. Horses put up with a lot before they start to protest, don't they?

Lucky Dizzy I hope she appreciates this

Seriously the teeth may help her gain weight more quickly too if they have been giving her grief.
At least everything is moving in the right direction now.

She deserves them for being such a good girl - I'm sure once she has her fangs sorted it will make the world of difference to her. Glad that the back man didn't find anything dramatically wrong with the Dizz - and hope he notices the improvement in her when he is next out.

What a fab owner you are! How many people would have just said smack it it's being naughty? I know practically the whole of my yard would!

Well done you! x x

She's had a good MOT now, and some issues picked up and dealt with, so hopefully she will soon be on her way to becoming a very fit, healthy and active horse

Can I have two Boasters please?
