Had the winter 'flu jab, plus one against pneumonia, yesterday. The arm I had the 'flu jab in is really tender, but I also feel really unwell tonight, in fact, like I'm getting 'flu. Has anybody else had this reaction. Beginning to wish I hadn't had it now.....

I think its normal to feel a bit funny after having a vaccination - when I had the flu jab last year I had a headache after (but tbh it could have been caused by anything).

YES!!! Take plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen four hourly, I found it was the only thing that made any difference, I had an extreme reaction and still "ill" 3 weeks later, aching joints, headache, temperature, shivering etc etc also had swollen and very red arm for a few days, went to doctors and told nothing they can do apart from taking drugs as above - good luck - it does get better!

Thanks for replies and the advice. Very gratefully received and nice to know I'm not alone - though sorry you all had trouble as well. Had quite a rash all over me when I went to bed last night, but ebbing away this morning. Doctor did ask if I was allergic to eggs, which I'm not.

All very strange - but I've cancelled the funeral arrangements.

The thing with the flu jab is that it is different every year so whether or not you have a reaction and how severe it is will vary year on year. Please do not let a previous bad experience put you off. If you are advised to have it then have it. Better to have a few days illness than get flu and end up in ICU as my mum did one year.

If you work or come into contact with vulnerable people make sure you have the jab too, you would hate to have the worry of someone getting ill.

Also remember that getting ill after the flu jab is not necessarily a result of the jab, you may have suffered anyway. A work colleague was off because he felt ill after a flu jab, blamed it on the jab and moaned about how it wasn't worth having it, turned out to be a kidney infection and completely unrelated.

I'v had the flu jab for the last 10 years and last year i had a bit of a reaction to it too, aches and pains and other flu simptoms. But i had the swine flu vacc a couple of years ago and i had a dead arm for about a week, i probably could have cut it off and not felt a thing lol.
