Took Pidge, Sunny and Oz to Eland Lodge yesterday for a spin round the XC fences. Pidge got very excited on the lorry when tacking up and tried to dig a hole in the floor to get out quicker
We jumped all of the following fences several times as wanted a good play before the HT on 11th May.
So warmed up and popped him over the funny log (ran out first time over this one) followed by a palisade. Then put these together followed by the step down and step up (sunken road) which we both enjoyed as I like doing steps
Then had a play down the Intro steps and then went over the sheep feeder and palisade fences, round the tree area and out over the pheasant feeder after one stop as I took my legs off on the approach.
Then went and had a play down the big step into water (dry at the moment) and through the leap of faith fences and over the double of logs followed by the post and rail fence.
Then scrambled over the ditch as I looked in it, bad mummy followed by the Trakhener (SP?) which he never even looked at.
Then came back and did the Trakhener followed by the crocodile and pile of logs. Attempted the log with shrubs behind and ran out to the left (I was trying to jump the bit on the left as it was smaller, so tried again and he ran out again and I plopped off to the left, got back on and popped him over the logs again but didnt want to try the bogie fence again so did I do wrong to not attempt this jump again?
Went and flew over the first brush fence followed by the log and then had a stop at the brush fence so we walked over it (it is only small and he is 17hh) as I was feeling like a woos so had a lead from sis and then jumped it on my own.
Then went with Jo and had a long play at the water complex and had great fun jumping in and out of the steps finishing off with cantering off the step through the water and back out over the two steps.
Overall I am very pleased with how he went and I now know that when he runs out if is down to me and not him as when he gets keen I take my legs off and just sit there rather than keeping them on and giving him some direction and confidence. I dont know why but I have no problem going up and down bigger steps but fences of the same height scare me!
