Got up and turned Gen out at 6am so he could chill in the field for a bit. It was ok this morning - bit cold but sunny. Came out at 11am to bath - WINDY, COLD AND WET!!!! Poor Gen was filthy and being brown and white Had to have a bath. Baby burco on and lots of hot water later - one not so orange clay coloured pony.
Off to BRC. By this time its blowing a HOOOOOLEY.
Made the mistake of looking at the % of others before doing. Restricted was winning on 73% - so no chance for us to Qualify no matter what.
Gen was good in the warm up but very very tense in the test and hence not really moving forward. Medium canter he did some lovely one time changes - sadly not required at Novice level. Ended up on 62.4% which was fair considering he was really NOT at his best.
Next was the unaff test they also run. Thought it would be a good opportunity to do an Elem and in the double for the first time at a comp. Was judged by the same judge so was at Aff standard which was good.
Much better from Gen. More relaxed and working through. He got a bit 'stuck' in his first canter and hit the curb - despite Mike trying to give and 'release' him he did a rather interesting hand-stand! However he got over it very quickly and continued to work quite nicely. This is something he would NEVER have done 6 months ago. He would get his knickers in a twist and then just rear and back up and refuse to go forward at all.
Ended with 66.6% and WON!!!
Have to say a MASSIVE thanks to Mike who is a star and rides so quietly and patiently and has worked so hard with Gen.
Well if you have managed to read this far - CHEERS and have a glass of wine on me.
