Where to start???

As many of you will know, Hannah, my IDxTB mare, is up for sale at the moment. We have had a viewing and several people interested, so it is all becoming quite real. As a result, rather than dwelling on what 'might be', I decided to have a plan. I found a Novice sheet over 62% from the beginning of the year, and as Grace has two sheets for the Petplan Areas, I decided to try and get a second sheet for Hannah before we have a go at a Medium test
smile.gif

This morning I got up bright and early (dragging my poor husband out of bed with me) and we got to the yard in plenty of time. I plaited Han up, mucked out, did haynets, for the wagon ready and still had 45 mins so decided to do Grace's 'controlled exercise' before we left!

Today is her first day of trot work after three weeks walking and just under one week of complete box rest. This horse has been brought back to work so many times, and yes there has been some really horrendous moments, but nothing prepared me for today
crazy.gif

I got on, walked two steps and Grace just pulled me out of the saddle, put her head between her legs and bucked four times

My poor husband went as white as a sheet as he said he had never seen anything like it other than on TV when the rodeo is shown. He asked me to leave it for today, but after that performance, I was worried about taking my feet out of the stirrups

So, we set off walking again (with a very braced position from me I may add), and all was going well until I put my legs on slightly and asked for trot

Once again, she just pulled me out of the saddle, head between her legs and bucked her way around three quarters of the circle!!! DISGRACE is back in action it seems!

After a few choice words, I picked up my reins, got hold of the pommel of the saddle (must put neck strap on tomorrow) and just put my leg on and kept hold. It is all very well the vet saying she must only trot on a straight line, but I am sorry, it was either make her work on a circle or I would not have been here to tell the tale

I did a good 5 minutes of trotting, complete with a full on Capriole (again, poor husband was absolutely in pieces watching me as she then cantered up the long side while I tried to get my knitting back under control) and finally after 25 minutes in total (20 mins walking, 5 mins trotting) I called it a day. I took my feet out of my stirrups, breathed out, realised I was absolutely wet through with sweat and all of a sudden Grace just lept of the floor from all four feet, spun 180 degrees and started squealing

A voluntary dismount was then performed

So, any suggestions how I can survive a few more days??? Sedalin and ACP does not touch her (it just makes her trip but her reactions seem as sharp) and she is already on TopSpec Calmer

Anyway, on to Han's BD report...

We set off to Warren Farm and I was really looking forwards to it. The wind and rain did not even dampen my spirits! We got there, tacked up and I went to warm her up. This is the first time she has been out since June and she was such a good girl and I enjoyed riding her in the warm up. Her medium trots were really starting to let go and her collected work was lovely.

The first test was the dreaded N35... I hate this test so much. I find it so stoppy and starty

Anyway, we did an ok job of it. There were a few little mistakes and I sometimes felt Han was not 100% with me and took over a little, but I came away pleased. She ended up 2nd on 64.8% which means we now have our second Petplan sheet

The second test I felt was much smoother. She was with me the whole time apart from when she broke in the second medium canter
frown.gif
Her counter canters felt lovely and straight and she was much more relaxed. I was pretty gutted to see she had achieved a lower mark than in the first test, but that is dressage for you!

So Han will be going to the Areas in October at Myerscough... woo hoo
smile.gif
(well, if I survive the next few weeks with Grace that is... could be in a full body cast by that point!)

Ha ha... Hmmm, I am beginning to think the same
smile.gif

I feel so sorry for Grace, she must be bloody frustrated
mad.gif

Just pleased with Han though because she worked so well today

Well done i think i would be selling Grace not Hannah

I was thinking the same thing. At least with Hannah she'll behave and you can enjoy yourself.

Today I was very tempted
grin.gif

Just looking forwards to having Grace turned out again and back in work... just hope the ligament has improved and we are on the road to recovery
smile.gif

Well done for hanging on in there with Grace! You will be exhausted at the Petplans at this rate!! Congrats, the girl did good today!

Thanks G... was a bit disappointed with second result as she worked so much better, but hey ho, not much we can do about it and I really enjoyed taking her out again
smile.gif

Seconditis strikes again with a different horse... but I couldn't be more pleased with her as she just takes it all in her stride!

Well done!!

Look at riding Grace at the mo as training for starting your Jazz/Weltmeyer baby in a few years
wink.gif
I looking forward to the arrival of your chestnut blob next year almost as much as my 'hopefully' black blob!!

smile.gif

Do you know, the following thought went through my mind this morning: "Backing a three year old will be a walk in the park compared to this!" At least a three year old will tire whereas Grace just seemed to relax for a few minutes, lull me into a false sense of security and then BOOM!

When is your 'hopefully' black blob due? My orange blob is due 17th June
wink.gif

I cannot sell Grace... that is not an option now as she has endured too many veterinary issues for me to sell her with a clear conscience. Even as a companion, you would never know whether someone will chance their luck. Right now I do not even know whether she is going to come sound enough for ridden work, so she is stuck with me
smile.gif

I did enjoy taking Han out, I really did... but this is not my long term plan. I am just trying to enjoy her as much as possible while she is still with me and that is exactly what today was about. There was no pressure to get good marks or get a placing, we just went out because we had a weekend free

give grace a flipping good smack!

well done with Han, glad you are enjoying her and getting interest to sell.

Can I wait until she is back in work before I give her a good smack???
wink.gif
I have a feeling I would definitely be in a full body cast if I did it now
grin.gif
I just have to sort of sit there, not moving, not breathing and definitely not sneezing (one thing that sent her into a frenzy this morning).

Had quite a few calls about Han today actually... Just waiting for Mrs or Mr Right to come along but had one person contact me who sort of ticks all my boxes

Yes, she is still on the Regumate... I cannot believe the difference it has made. Before she did the ligament the main thing I noticed was that she was not sweating at all whereas before she was quite wet underneath her saddle area and on her neck. The bucking was non existant and she was much more forwards. Best thing I did putting her on that!

IT made a massive difference to Diva, but it also made her much more forwards, as she felt great.

Had a couple of woohoo moments too! Luckily Mr Worried was riding when she bronced all the way down the longside.
ooo.gif

It is probably a combination of feeling more comfortable and better! Not what you want to hear I know
crazy.gif

We have used sedalin in the past at a higher doseage but talk to your vet first. We used it when Blitz came back into worrk following the kebab incident
wink.gif

hey well done with hannah today
smile.gif
and well done for surviving most of what grace has thrown at you!! how are you getting another foal? is it out of another mare?
smile.gif

[ QUOTE ]
Why were you doing a Novice if she is competing at medium?
confused.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

She is not competing at Medium yet... we are doing our first one training at the end of the month to see where we are in the training and to give someone else an idea should they come to look at her.

She already has one Novice sheet, so I wanted another one to do the Petplans in October when I take Grace too... Han has not competed BD since spring this year
smile.gif

Welll done with Hannah!

And I hope you survive Grace (why is it the ones with the nice, angelic names that are always the most trouble? )
My only suggestion is they can't buck with head flexed to shoulder or even half way....so maybe be start work with shoulder ins? At least they are kind of straight....=)

Thanks Felicity_09... I wimped out this morning as my back was killing me after yesterday's performance, plus we were going out this afternoon so decided to leave it and start as we mean to go on tomorrow.

I have been doing shoulder in with her in walk to keep her feet on the floor, so good plan to try it in the trot too
