The Good.
Pupil and horse I have been working with for 16 months now seem to have come good. Horse is big (17.2) young WB who hadn't seen a pole before jan06. Last season eventing was a real emotional rollercoaster. Generally in lead or top 3 after dressage but jumping letting them down. I felt he just needed 12 months to grow in to himself a bit more.
Well first event this season he finished second in intro at Isleham then won Section A PN at SOE this weekend finishing on dressage score of 29.1. So pleased for her.

The Cheeky
Daughter has now had her new pony for 2 weeks. We wanted something that had potential but also a bit of attitude that would teach her how to deal with situations. Pony had previously been used as lead rein but proved very opinionated when let loose. Daugher has had a few ineteresting sessions so far but does seem to be making progress. Asking for canter when we first got him resulted in rodeo display.
Here's a vid of her practicing last night. He can work better than this but she wasn't getting any help last night from mum or dad.

And the Worrying.
Ed's shiver seems to have started to degenerate. I've had a feeling things were getting worse for a few weeks but was putting it out of my mind. Cant ingnore it any longer as he he showing sign of shiver in off hind (previously only in near hind). So he's now turned out 24/7 (thanks YO) which is new territory for both of us and on light hacking only for a couple of months to see what happens. This may just be a blip or the start of something more. Just have to play the waiting game.

Daughter is just 12. This is her second pony. Her first was a real kick along type that had spent 25 years in a riding school and was 35 when we got him. New pony is as different as chalk and cheese.

Well, as you say a real mixed bag

Sorry to hear that Ed is not well...and just as you two were starting to gel. I doubt it's of any relevance, but have you considered that the change of weather recently might have had something to do with the apparent degeneration

I'm no expert, and i can't think why it would make any difference, but it's just that Trike had a bad few days a couple of weeks ago (he has a shiver too...), but *touch wood* he seems to have come right again. Fingers crossed that it's nothing more than just a slight blip for you two

Hopefully the TO will help matters - have my fingers Xed.

Brilliant news re: your student, you must feel V proud!

And your daughter, wow, seems like someone has inherited their parents talent - she is a lovely rider and seems to have the pony going VERY well.

what a beautifull little rider your daughter is it was such a joy to watch her ride and what made it even better was rewarding pony with a pat and encouragement great to see so many adults forget this let alone children, sorry to hear about your horse!

cant wait for more vids of daughter and pony's progress

Fingers firmly crossed he comes right soon!

agree your daughter looks proud as punch.i thought that shivers is one of those things you can carry on working them not hard but regular and yes turning them out 24/7

Well done pupil, that is excellent news.

Really sorry to hear about Ed, if it isn't one thing with horses it is another. Fingers crossed the turn out does him some good.

Daughter looks really good as well.

It's great when people your teaching turn a corner and have some success, good for you.

Sorry to hear about Ed - don't know anything about shivers so can't offer any advice, is he the chestnut you jump?

Great to see your daughter riding so nicely and quietly.
