Well today was the day I took Herbie hunting.
Last time I took him was intresting to say the least. But not in the way most would expect When the field galloped off Herbs just stood there and refused to move But that was when I first got him and two seasons ago. He's a very diffrent pony now so I was unsure what he would do this time.
I wasn't shore if we would be going after spending most of the night listening to the wind and rain. Then it was still raining this morning. But by 9 it was a lovely day so I got Herbs in and got him ready. The good thing about the rain was it had washed off all the mud so although he was wet he was atleast clean I tidyed him up as best I could, firmly fitted a red ribbon to his tail Tacked him up and got myself ready and off we set.
We trotted most of the way to the meet when we arrived there were already afew people there. I found the hunt sec, paid my cap and then found a nice quiet corner to sit in and wait for the off. Herbs was as good as gold and stood like a rock at the meet. Everyone set off and I put myself well at the back. Herbs followed along at the speed I wanted. He was trotting along happily. I was relieved to be at the back when Herbs suddenly lurched forwards. I turned round and suddenly realised we were at the front. Even the hounds were behind us So I moved to the side and let everyone passed. Herbs again was as good as gold. He let everyone passed then carried on at the back. We were happily cantering along. People were even overtaking us quite close and Herbs didn't bat an eyelid. When we stopped lots of people were admireing Herbs and saying how lovely he was. He seemed to be having a lovely time
After about an hour we ended up in a small group stood in a valley. Two of the other horses were messing around. One was spinning round and rearing and the other kept backing into Herbs. Despite me telling the rider several times to watchout as he kicks. This was winding Herbs up and he started running backwards and he even did a little rear I calmed him down but the field were along way away and I didn't know how to get to them. Herbs was getting so wound up I desided to take him home before he got to upset. I headed off and after a short distance I came across a lady riding a lovely grey gelding. I asked her if she was still hunting and if she minded if I joined her. I explained Herbs had been getting wound up and I realy didn't want to end on a bad note. She was lovely and I turned round and made my way back to the hunt with her. She knew just were to go and we found hounds again. I rode with her for about another hour and Herbs was much calmer. Then she said she was going to go home. It was about 2pm so I desided to call it a day with Herbs to. I made my way in the direction of home. Suddenly two horses came galloping down the track and streight passed us . (I think one was the whip) They didn't even slow down. I just held onto the rein and said no when Herbs felt like he wanted to join them and he carried on walking calmly down the track.
I'm so proud of my little man. He was soooooooooooo good (apart from the little blip but we are ignoring that ) and best of all he seemed to realy enjoy himself and had his ears pricked all day even the whole hack home (which took nearly 2 hours ) I can't wait till I can take him again.
Wow thats a long post. Thankyou if you read it all. Here are afew pics I managed to get today. Sadly non of us actualy hunting as I had noone to take pics.
