I see a lot of posts on here about horses not selling much at the moment - do people think that's true? Or is it much the same as ever?

I was also pondering how much the market and prices are going to be effected now that we are into Autumn, and a lot of people must be planning for Winer.

I must say, having had a browse on horsequest I am amazed at some of the prices

Do you think they are likely to fall? Is the current market a good place for haggling a bargain...?

Im looking for a youngster, weanling preferbly but up to a yearling and my budget is fairly low at Maximim of £850 (im not looking for a world beater) Ive seen some nice native crosses for over £1K...... mostly coloured, and some not so nice ones for over £1K

I hope the prices come down over winter, they usually do as nobody wants to be out in the cold and rain

I think horses are selling - but people are being very picky - they know exactly what they want and are not prepared to compromise. Any quirks are a big no-no unless the horse is an absolute performer - and then the price has to be adjusted! Seems to be a lot of haggling too - there's always something about a horse to bargain with!

I know lots for sale, I was speaking to a welsh A,C and D breeder on sunday and she's just sold one for the 1st time in 2 years

Shame as she has nice horses,
Nic, go through the Native breeders in your area and you'll be surprised at what you can pick up for £800

Mine sold within a week for the full asking price (which we were slightly shocked by as we thought we were being overly optimistic and fully intended to drop it as we thought we'd have very little interest) I must have had at least 10-15 calls about her in that first week, but I think we were just lucky as she was the right 'type' to sell quickly if that makes sense?

Looking as I always am for the perfect ID youngster, I think prices are astonishingly high, when we are supposed to be in a recession. I have seen a lovely youngster (ID) but hes still a bit pricey for me so I will wait 'til we are right into winter before I make an offer.
Can't show you or tell you where he is as someone may think he is a bargain even now and pip me at the post.

Average prices of most good horses seem well in excess of £4,000 for those backed and started, rising up to £5,500 - £7,000 plus for what I would really like.

Yep horses are very definitely still selling. Mine sold without a problem, for full asking price and people being very keen to outbid each other!!!!

A friend has one for sale and is getting a lot of interest, and the vet who vetted my mare said he is busier that this time last year, but mainly with 4-7k horses, and not the 5 figure horses he used to get lots of.

i sold mine for price i wanted without having to advertise and to the first person who tried her.

good horses are still selling very well.
