Not sure that I SHOULD post this as I'm sure putting it in writing will jinx it all & make him revert to knobhead mode but I think the naughty hooligan may be very very slowly acquiring a little maturity.
His car chasing is still a work in progress especially in new areas / when they're moving fast (& the situation of them passing behind a hedge is still super exciting) but he's better than he was & no longer lunging at them.
I am starting to trust him more off lead after a period of many months of not letting him off as he does a lot more checking in & a lot less trying to pee off into the distance when he spots another off lead dog & he is now capable of greeting a friend & then coming with me rather than trying to follow them without me having to come & physically grab him (the main reason why I stopped letting him off for a while)
Still work to do & I think I'll always be selective about where I let him off but nice to watch him zooming in & out of trees without having a lead to get tangled in & being able to have a bit of a run about without being restricted by how fast (or slow!) I can run.
He's still a PITA for stealing things just so he can parade around with them but normally squeaky rabbit toy is coveted enough to persuade him to relinquish them.
